That's a lot of Blair Waldorf.

As long as you don't wear something that people remember for being inappropriate (i.e. too much cleavage /too short skirt), you'll be fine.

A first impression is a lasting one. Admitted student day is as much about making an impression as it is about getting oriented to the school. Why not dress nicely for that day? What would it hurt? The people you want to remember you (professors and admins) will do so, and the other students won't hold it against you. An outfit that leans towards the professional side (but without being "stuffy"), says you are serious and professional about your work. It says that you care about what others think of you. That means a lot when it cxomes to being recommended for internships, research assistanceships, fellowships, clinics, etc. This isn't undergrad. You are a hair from working in the professional world, and you need to ACT-AS-IF...

Pick 1, 4, 5 or 7!

On a daily basis, nice but casual with a hint of professional should be good. I would recommend dressing in khakis, slacks or nice jeans with nice blouses and sweaters, loafers or ballet slip-ons...boots during the winter, etc. Leggings and skirts are cool. Spice your outfits up with leather or suede jackets (if you're in the north). If you want to wear jeans and a t-shirt, that's ok too. Just use common sense. If you are in the south you have less freedom.

The girls in my law school lean towards not caring at all what they look like when they come to class. A couple still try to look good and put on make up everyday but by finals everyone has given that up.

At some point you just have to throw in the towel and sport the yoga pants/sweatshirt combo.

I once did this in grad school and a girl complained to the dean that she didn't think she should have to be forced to look at me in my work-out clothes.

Grad school or med school? I had an ex in med school who said someone gave him shit for wearing jeans to class one day, even though he was really sick. I think there's a much higher standard in med school in terms of what you wear to class than law school.

I'm not slut-shaming. There's a time and a place for everything.

ekbrown09 wrote:As somewhat ridiculous as this post seems, I'm glad someone did it because I've been wondering the same thing... Do girls come to class in sweats when you're in law school? I do it pretty much everyday in undergrad... the idea of putting on real clothes everyday to go to class kind of sucks.

Why does it matter what everyone else does? Do what you want.

I wonder how many seconds the dean stared at her blankly.

Because lots of girls are secretly hoping law school will be the time it's socially acceptable or even necessary to dress like blair waldorf.

Just because she is a little nervous and wants to know what is appropriate to wear in a setting that she doesn't know about makes her unqualified to be a law student?

It is Christmas time, smile a little, it won't hurt.

Because girls are idiots who spend too much time obsessing about how other people think of them.

No, she is being crazy and obsessing about something that doesn't matter. That means she is acting like a law student. My advice is to stop acting like a law student.

Why do so many dick heads post "flame" in threads. It's like a flame epidemic. I get sick of the word flame. Move to another thread if you have nothing better to contribute. It's rare to find a thread nowadays where some hero doesn't grace us with his "flame" comment.

My dream is that it will be required for us to wear blue blazers and sports coats every day.
