Does law school contact employers?

Post by topsch125 » Fri Dec 09, 2011 5:28 pm

Anyone knows if law schools actually contact employers? Some schools do ask for authorization to contact them in their certification statement. I wouldn't want employers finding out yet.

Thanks.

Anyone has any different opinion?

Would it be okay to ask the law school directly about the concern?

My cousin applied to MVPB in 2005, and he's pretty sure that the admissions dean actually called the person who wrote his LOR, an official at a civil rights organization he interned at. He was a borderline admit: high LSAT/middling GPA splitter.

Admission deans also do use Google to look up employers and stuff if they're not quite sure what a company/organization is from the resume. Dean Zearfoss at U-M also has written that she became suspicious about an achievement an applicant claimed, and researched it (the applicant claimed to have invented something, although her background suggested the invention would be beyond her abilities. It turns out her mom actually invented it. She was rejected).

So: it would be highly, highly unlikely for them to contact an employer unless you had some kind of red flag that indicated you were being less than forthright about your job. But it can happen.
