3.77/171 Hispanic, where to apply?
Already have South Carolina, Georgia, Emory, UVA, Georgetown, and Alabama completed. Planning to apply to Southern California, Texas, Duke, Vandy. Should I apply anywhere else?

Yeah definitely aim higher. I'd say go from CCN on down. I wouldn't even bother with a few of those schools on your list. You will at least get a couple in the T14.

Are you Mexican or Puerto Rican?
Even if you aren't, you should aim higher. Schools like NYU, Michigan, Penn should be on your list. If you're MA/PR, you should apply to HYS.

If you're legit URM you should probably apply to every T14 you would consider attending as you would have a good chance at all of them with those #'s.

I would not go to any school on your list unless you're dead set on staying in that area as they should all give you substantial $$. In your situation, I would not go lower than NYU. Most of the lower T14 should throw some money at you. All this even without URM. With URM, apply to HYS.

Blanket the T14. All of it. You have a shot at HYS.ccmbr006 wrote:Already have South Carolina, Georgia, Emory, UVA, Georgetown, and Alabama completed. Planning to apply to Southern California, Texas, Duke, Vandy. Should I apply anywhere else?
Texas, Vandy, UCLA could be full-ride safeties (although I'm guessing Texas and UCLA get more hispanic applicants).
You are aiming way too low (SC and Alabama were a waste of time).
Feel free to check the URM section of TLS for more advice.

A 171, 3.7, Hispanic is a stretch for HYS? Since when? H is probably a lock, but YS is more of a stretch, I'd say, as they are generally "black boxes" when it comes to admissions.

It really depends on whether OP is PR/MA or a different kind of Hispanic.TwelveBeeSicks wrote:A 171, 3.7, Hispanic is a stretch for HYS? Since when?

You should aim higher. Apply to as many T14 schools as you can afford.ccmbr006 wrote:Already have South Carolina, Georgia, Emory, UVA, Georgetown, and Alabama completed. Planning to apply to Southern California, Texas, Duke, Vandy. Should I apply anywhere else?

Not PR or MA. Also from Georgia and did UGA undergrad, so I'm terrified of cold weather.

Lots of schools still give other hispanics boosts. It's just really unpredictable. I would definitely apply to Michigan if I were you despite the cold ass weather there. It would also probably be good to include some kind of diversity statement or something about your heritage in your personal statement.ccmbr006 wrote:Not PR or MA. My cousin went to Michigan undergrad, and she's from Texas, so I'm currently soliciting her advice on how to survive up there.

Buy a good wind-proof coat, good gloves, a scarf and a hat. You'll survive. I was unaccustomed to winters my first year in UG--I had never owned a real winter coat. It's not so bad if you outfit yourself correctly.ccmbr006 wrote:My cousin went to Michigan undergrad, and she's from Texas, so I'm currently soliciting her advice on how to survive up there.
And definitely apply to MI. GL!
