Who should be my 2nd LOR? Prof or Boss?

Postby northside » Tue Nov 15, 2011 9:04 am

So I have one solid LOR from my honors legal theory professor that i've had several times and asked two others to write them for me. One is a professor whom I've only had once, but is a mentor, and the other is my boss who is also a mentor and a lawyer in the field I plan to go in. I'm a part time legal assistant still in undergrad. My boss knows me very well and we work together closely. Much of my work is writing and researching so it seems he is no different than a professor but I've heard that professors are better than bosses. I've also heard submitting 3 when 2 is required often looks douchey so which one should I pick?

Thanks for voting but saying why would be more helpful ;-)

EDIT// I received one from my boss. So should I wait for the other professor or just send them off?

So...I got my LOR from my boss. Should I wait for the third? Or send them off?

Academic LORs are always preferable. Wait on your professor.

I'd say submit all three with the academic taking precedent if a school only allows you to submit two. Best of luck.
