How hard is UVA to get into RD?
From what I've seen on LSN, UVA is looks like its harder to get into than the rest of of CCNMP with regular decision . Of course this is just based off of LSN, but it's still a pretty large sample size (and I say looks like because there might be some selection bias where people with better numbers are applying to CCN).
LSAT 170+, GPA 3.2+

So is this actually representative in most people's opinion/what's the reasoning behind this? In state quotas and larger number of ED applicants compared to other T14s?
I visited the school and really liked it but don't want to get locked out of all other T14s by EDing, but at the same time, I don't want to have little to no chance by applying RD.

Confusing thread is confusing...
The numbers you list are actually lower than the credentials of admitted students in CCN (for the most part). So I don't entirely see how you have formulated said opinion.

Sorry for the confusion in the OP, this is why I shouldn't make threads at 2 AM. But heres RD for 175+/3.9+
UVA:

Columbia:

Chicago:
http://chicago.lawschoolnumbers.com/app ... =1&type=jd
NYU:

Statistically, that's a huge difference, even with the limited sample size (you can lower the range to 172 and 3.75, about median at CCN, and the same holds true over more data). At or above 75th/75th at CCN and most people get in, but at UVA's 75th for GPA and well above their 75th for LSAT and only one acceptance, which brings me to my original question: can anyone explain the reasoning behind this?

You also need to keep YP in mind though. Just randomly selecting a candidate: 3.94/178 presumably has no compelling reason to attend UVA over HYS. So why would UVA offer the candidate a spot if they think there is a very good chance he isn't going to fill it? This is especially true if a candidate didn't send school-specific LORs, put together a Why X? Essay, etc.

I heard somewhere on here that the T14 didn't yield protect. Of course that could be wrong, and YP would be the simplest explanation for this.FryBreadPower wrote:You also need to keep YP in mind though. MVPB are the most prone in the T14 to YP, actually.westinghouse60 wrote:I heard somewhere on here that the T14 didn't yield protect. doesn't UVA also have an in-state quota to fill? or is the law school not subject to this policy like UVA UG is?
edit: seems like there is no actual quota, but admissions "wants" a certain percentage of the body to be instate.

tl;dr: UVA does yield protect.

I'm convinced that UVA OOS RD admissions is an elaborate flame.

Re: How hard is UVA to get into RD?
UVA 1L here. The school is required to have at least 40% in-state students. There are around 9-10x more out-of-state applicants than in-state applicants, which makes it very difficult for an out-of-stater to get in given that there are almost 10x as many people competing for just a little more than half of the spots. I don't think OOS RD applicants need better numbers than they would for CCN; it's just that having the requisite numbers is a far cry from guaranteeing admission whereas at other schools, once you have the numbers, you are pretty much in.westinghouse60 wrote:From what I've seen on LSN, UVA is looks like its harder to get into than the rest of of CCNMP with regular decision . I visited the school and really liked it but don't want to get locked out of all other T14s by EDing, but at the same time, I don't want to have little to no chance by applying RD.
Most of the OOS students here were deferred from last year, applied ED, or applied RD and were admitted off the wait list. OOS RD non-wait list admits do exist though.
