I'm on the same boat.. a bunch of F's and D's and W's first couple of years of school and then changed up and repeated every class but ended up with a 2.49 at the end of the lsac calculations... my point?
go for it and ED write an addendum about your grades (or better yet write a personal statement that ties into your addendum about how you turned everything around) no reason not to

I'm a totally different student now, but for the vast majority of my college career I've been inconsistent. I would put exactly what you said above into the addendum (minus the admission officer part). Emphasize your upward trend & great LSAT score. Write a two-line addendum for your 2nd & 3rd LSATs. As for ED, I don't know if there's a much better option to ED to lower on in rank. My first thought was Northwestern but it sounds like you're applying from UG. I think VA is a solid ED choice. Maybe Michigan or Penn?

I think UVA is probably a good use of your ED, and normally I'd say you had a pretty good chance. That being said, you have an ugly academic record. It might not keep you out, but I think it's a wild card and will make your cycle somewhat unpredictable.

Thanks a lot for the responses. I'll probably stick with the ED to Virginia. I've been having the same thoughts as Sky, I ended up getting a lot of fee waivers so I'll be applying to a lot of schools and hoping I hit something in the top 30.
If anyone else has suggestions they would be much appreciated.

You're exactly the type of person that addenda are designed for.
Your LSAT score raises my interest in why your GPA is low. I look at your transcript, and I see it's horrendous at the beginning, great at the end. I want to know why that happened.
If you can write an addenda that shows the recent years are who you are now, and there's no risk of slipping back into the old habits, I think you'll find a few adcomms willing to take a chance on you. From your initial post, it seems you've got the right attitude down for the addendum, so capture that spirit in the essay.
