Is living/working abroad during a gap year...

An appropriate (or solid) topic for a diversity statement? Or am I really stretching it here and should I just forget about it?

I don't think it's an example of "diversity" because it was only for a year. Might make a good PS.

+1 to Ginj. Where did you teach? It would be a better statement topic if it was somewhere not many people go (ie, Mongolia instead of France).

I did the same thing (for 2 years) and I don't think it's really a good topic. Everyone and their mothers has gone abroad and either studied or taught English.

I think you might be able to relate it to something unique about yourself (e.g. you are hispanic and saw how your culture was viewed in Spain/Europe etc etc)
