They've probably been falsely reporting data for years and it's just now catching up to them.

I'm not happy.
This can't be real.
It is.

Hopefully, this won't negatively affect the reputation of the current students in the eyes of employers. This really kills me, because it could have an impact on the employment prospects of a large number of my friends

There's nothing funny about taking out $180k in debt, then dealing with the prospect of unemployment. Grow up.

holy hell. That was....highly unexpected. Not quite the slight number fudging I think everyone was hoping for. I'll still apply (free app and all), but I'm feeling significantly less likely to really consider enrolling. Very unfortunate.

I know they claim not to YP, but this sounds like a very obvious example that they do...

... I was WL as well, but as a splitter I found that more likely.

Wow. I wonder if they didn't react well enough to the drop in applications and ended up getting destroyed. I still hope it was an honest mistake, but that big of a discrepancy leads me to believe it probably wasn't.

I wonder if any other schools did the same? I'd be surprised if Illinois was the only one to drop that much, unless they have been lying on their numbers for years.

People who have followed my posts know that I tend to defend Illinois a decent amount. But right now I have a hard time believing that this was a mistake. I guess....Either our admissions department lied or they're incompetent. And I'm not happy about it either way.

Bets on how long before a student announces they're suing the school? I'd be really pissed. On the other hand, it's not functionally much different then them having a rough year for admissions later on which hits the school's reputation for employers. Well, aside from the ethics/credibility part. Hard to see how that really impacts hiring decisions.

Oh please. The prospect of unemployment has been around for years at schools in this range.

Perhaps not as badly as it will be now because of this shit. The guy is defending his friends at the school, junior.

I normally roll my eyes at news of students talking about suing their law school, but I think I would give a free pass here. This is.....just....wow. 5 LSAT points and .11 GPA points? Holy christ almighty.

I'm happy with the education I'm receiving here. I like my friends and I'm happy with the faculty.

But--I'll openly admit I used rankings pretty heavily in making my admissions decisions. If this turns out to have been going on for a number of years and our true ranking is much lower, then I know where I'd have gone, and it wouldn't have been here. That's not an indictment of my experiences at Illinois since I've arrived, but a reflection of the factors that came up while I was making my ultimate decision. I had a choice to go to a different law school, ranked just 2 spots better, for about 10k more per year. If Illinois had been ranked significantly lower, I'd have chosen the other school.

This shouldn't matter considering this year's class was (supposedly) much smaller than normal.

Is there ANY chance that a website administrator mistakenly published the 75th percentile numbers as the medians? I feel like that would be the preferred mistake to have been made in this situation... At least it's forgivable and you can blame it on an hourly web tech instead of school administration?

That occurred to me, too. That would still mean that we had a precipitous drop from our numbers last year (167 to 163) and I have a hard time believing that.

No. It was not just the website.
