That occurred to me, too. That would still mean that we had a precipitous drop from our numbers last year (167 to 163) and I have a hard time believing that.
Didn't the class size also decrease significantly too?

Yeah, but that was the plan. And a decrease in class size should have made it easier, not harder, to maintain our medians.

I hope so. I want to know.

Maybe I should update the firms I've interviewed with with my LSAT score...

Edit: Emails and news releases imply that they will audit the past few years.

Holy shit. Hopefully the consequences of this scandal (and whatever else is uncovered from subsequent investigations) don't fall too heavily upon the shoulders of current students. Because man, that just sucks. 163? Really?

Also: waitlisted last cycle with a 170/3.4.

No. It was not just the website.

Wait it wasn't? This is news to me, I thought it was just the class profile on the law school website.

Yeah, that was my thought, and makes the new numbers that much more surprising. ND and IUB are probably a step above at this point, as far as regional schools go...

I wonder what we'll see about the years before. Drop by that many points would make it hard to believe that this was the first year numbers fudging has happened. I'm not sure what to think.

Probably rankings wise, but I suspect the Chicago firms that recruit here and don't recruit at IUB won't switch just because of this. Our alumni are still pretty loyal to the school and are well-entrenched in Chicago.

This makes me even more upset. Why the fuck was Pless lying when he could have just accepted these 170s!

I kind of wonder how many students jaws dropped when they saw the 168 median for the first time

Same. Maybe evidence of a mistake rather than intentional lying....

Not too many, I think, given how our numbers have been rising for the last few years. It wasn't outside the realm of possibility. I guess we'll see if those numbers were accurate, too, though....

+1

The students are the last ones who should have to suffer because of this.

BYU, George Mason, and Baylor now have higher numbers than UIUC. The students entering had absolutely no way of knowing that when making their law school decision.

Confirmed 25th was 163 last year, that would be a hell of a fall if genuine...

@Yukos: The only aspect confirmed was that Illinois reported the 25th% LSAT as a 163 last year. We still don't know whether or not last year's numbers will be audited.

as a uiuc 1L (who had higher ranked offers) i cant tell you have enraged i am. all the 1Ls i know have been walking around in a daze since getting the email from Dean Smith and i've overheard several unset phone calls to mom/dad/SOs.

does anyone have any knowledge on ways we can get out of this? i dont really have much money sunk in at this point - is dropping out and reapplying next year to other places a possibility???!? would i be able to simply re-apply with my stats or would i gain some stigma as a drop-out?

Well that's one less application I have to fill out this fall...

I also feel really bad for all of the 1Ls at Illinois right now. I hope you guys come out alright.

I really hope Dean Smith plans to do something more for the students than just send out an e-mail. This is ridiculous.

Knowing Pless, I have an EXTREMELY hard time believing this was intentional.

That is how I felt about Pless, but after seeing how drastic the supposed difference in numbers is, I'm just really confused.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
