MENSA on resume?

Post by UCLAorbust » Fri Sep 02, 2011 2:18 pm

Totally random question.....

I belong to MENSA, and was thinking of mentioning it on my resume for my applications, but would that look snobby to mention? I heard somewhere that listing it on professional resumes is a bad idea, but wasn't sure if the same went for applications.

Mensa can be tacky on a resume. Better to just put a bolded line the the middle that says: "I think I am better than everyone else"

No, let your class rank speak for itself.

Definitely no. Especially since anyone at a top school is eligible to join. IIRC, a 167 on the LSAT is sufficient to join.

I always emboss my MENSA membership on my resumes, gold of course, that way they can rub it and coo, it gives the resume that little extra je ne sais quoi

snailio is pretty much using the best MENSA strategy ever. And proving the old saying "ask a silly question, get a silly answer" to be 100% true.

I doubt the OP is a member of MENSA. If he was a member, he'd know the secret handshake and would just show up at the admissions office and perform it for an auto-admit.

I don't think law schools admissions would hold it against you, but hopefully you have enough stuff to fill out a resume that's more impressive. If you were to include it, I'd keep it somewhere less prominent like the interests/hobbies section.

all things considered i've decided not to include it. thanks for the feedback (especially those of you that didn't include the usual obligatory insults that so many on this forum find it necessary to inject into every comment to make the OP feel bad).
