Applying early

I get that rolling admissions means that you don't want to apply too late, but people have said on these forums that applying as soon as applications are accepted is the best thing to do for people with borderline numbers at their schools. But why is applying in late Sept. or early Oct. really any worse?

It might not be, it depends on how many people apply super early and what your numbers are. While it might be true that schools don't start looking at apps until October/November, they probably read them in the order they were received.

If your application is ready to go and it's Sept 1, then send it in. If it still needs more work to be perfect then get it perfect and send it in ASAP.

The earlier the better.

Late september early October isn't much worse, but you must remember that rating applications for admissions is a remedial process. The same steps occur every day...reading the application, a PS, evaluating the numbers, considering the softs...ect. Also, schools are constantly trying to improve their numbers.

At the very beginning of the application process, schools are more likely to:

1) Admit students with below average - average numbers [Because they are not concerned about "not" meeting their numbers yet.

2) Take more of an interest in your story [Because they don't have many people to compare you to]

Applying in October is totally fine. Seriously. TLS is full of crazy people who think they MUST apply September 1, but you'll be alright applying later. I sent out most applications from October 31-November 2 and I was in the first batch of decisions from most schools.
