ITT: New School Medians Revealed
So I've been thinking for a while we need a thread like this where upcoming 1Ls can post the new medians revealed at orientations by their schools. I'll try and post a schedule of some schools' orientations in a bit and hopefully some of the awesome TLS members on here can check in and report the new medians when they find out.

They announce that at orientation? Why would we care?

Well, if you are going to be applying this cycle, I'd think you would care to know what medians you will be judged against. After all, I think we know how important they are in the admissions process.shoeshine wrote:They announce that at orientation? Why would we care?

I think the point was more: why would an incoming 1L care about the medians?Real Madrid wrote:Well, if you are going to be applying this cycle, I'd think you would care to know what medians you will be judged against. I'm pretty sure they didn't announce anything about medians at my orientation. Like shoeshine said, no one would care.
Edit for typo.

1. I never cared about the medians of the schools I was applying to.
2. I said "why would we care" because I am starting at a T14 this year. I know I don't care what the median lsat or UG gpa of my class is. I can't understand why they would announce something that none of the 1Ls would care about.

All schools may not announce them. I've just seen multiple references to it and thought this might be helpful to upcoming applicants. If not, I for one am interested to know anyway!

No. I am a URM. My cycle was very random and I knew that it would be from the start. I knew I had a shot at most places so I did not pay attention to the numbers.Wade LeBosh wrote:You sound smart.shoeshine wrote: 1. I never cared about the medians of the schools I was applying to.

Also a URM here. I agree the specific numbers don't affect us as much, but the general range is affecting where I apply.shoeshine wrote:No. I am a URM. They announced the ACT and GPA medians at my UG...shoeshine wrote:They announce that at orientation? Why would we care?
It's to build pride for the school: "This year's entering class arrives with an impressive 170 median!" or whatever.
I'm not saying you should care, but people do.

Not to mention its pretty important to people applying in a month or so. I guess people are trying to be cool by exclaiming they dont care, and how dare you ask them for that info ?minnbills wrote:They announced the ACT and GPA medians at my UG...shoeshine wrote:They announce that at orientation? they always announce it at UVA too, usually accompanied by something like "you are the most accomplished class ever"

I don't think anyone denies it is important to people applying, the point is once you are attending a school you are not really going to care anymore.Sandro wrote:Not to mention its pretty important to people applying in a month or so. Nothing says accomplished like the middle student of one year's class answering one more LSAT question correctly than the previous year's. Definitely something to be proud of.barry wrote:they always announce it at UVA too, usually accompanied by something like "you are the most accomplished class ever"
