LOR from alum?

Post by auntjulia » Thu Jul 14, 2011 11:02 pm

I tried the search function and didn't come up with anything: I have a distant relative who is a successful (not anything outrageous tho) MVP alum. We know each other very well and she has expressed willingness to write a LOR for me. Is this a good addition to my app? It would be a good and thoughtful recommendation but idk how MVP would react.

(Btw I know i could have probably just named the school but TLS has made me paranoid)

Thanks in advance

It'd be better to get LORs from professors and/or employers (depending on how long you've been out of school). They've worked closely with you, and can describe your abilities in an academic/professional context better than a relative.
