But would it hurt my chances, since asians are overrepresented? I guess I want to know if I should check "prefer not to answer" than asian, because to be totally honest, my friends all say I'm a twinkie, look asian, but don't act it.crumpetsandtea wrote:O HAI GPA/SCHOOLS TWIN...and hopefully close LSAT after this June. Oh, and to the above poster -- being asian will not help. Asians are ORMs.

LOL the fact that you look asian but don't act it is pretty irrelevant to law school admissions. I don't think that being asian will hurt, not any more than being white would.jeninamillion wrote:But would it hurt my chances, since asians are overrepresented? Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
Okay yikes here we go...this is my official announcement (aka admitting out loud for the first time) that I'll be applying this year. I'm nervous as I had applied to one law school before (long story) but that was in the past and this is now....
I'll be retaking my LSAT in October. I bombed it the first two times but I wasn't in the right state of mind, which I didn't know at the time. However, I improved significantly the second time and am aiming for a 165+ for my third time.
Favorite Reach: George Washington. I loved DC so much when I was an intern there for a summer, it was magical.
Favorite Target(s): Vermont Law School/Pace University School of Law
Favorite Safety: I don't think I have a safety, every school seems like a target due to my GPA!
My personal statement is going to be be about my travel experiences and how growing up in two cultures has positively impacted me. I will have to add an addendum explaining my poor GPA (2.994) and bad senior year, which I'm totally dreading. I hate feeling like I'm using a recently diagnosed mental illness as an excuse for my poor performance but...it explains things.

When is everyone trying to get their applications in by? My self-imposed deadline is October 15th but that'll depend on one of my LORs coming in on time. The professor is notorious for waiting until the very last minute but he seems really impressed with my work so I had to ask him.

Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
Tracking down LORs is the hardest part...I have mine already but they're a little outdated. I'm taking the Oct. LSAT so I'm going to try to have everything done by the time the scores are released online on the 26th, and submit by early November.spek wrote:When is everyone trying to get their applications in by? Are you in regular contact with said professor?

Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
Somewhat regular. I gave him a packet with all my information, it included a letter in which I kindly told him I would start reminding him about the LOR by the beginning of September. So he knows that reminders will be coming every two weeks . I'm hoping the gentle reminders will be enough to keep things on track.

Depends on whether or not I have to retake the October test. Otherwise, September 1st ED to UVA.spek wrote:When is everyone trying to get their applications in by? I'm hoping to have them in ASAP. I have everything prepared, it will just be a matter of getting the Dean's Certs and LORs in on time.spek wrote:When is everyone trying to get their applications in by? Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
GPA: 4.0
LSAT: (avg. 168/169 right now, postponed till october so i could get it higher)
Softs: Int'l student, competitive public policy fellowship (means I have to do a joint degree), student orgs & volunteer work
Fav Reach: Stanford (friend of mine goes there, absolutely loves it)
Fav Target: Columbia (visited, fell in love with it. Crushing living costs in NYC though!)
Fav Safety: Georgetown (I really love DC... pretty much it)
Personal Statement: black dude from London, int'l student at a US HBCU, how i've changed.
Really curious how my cycle is gonna go. Int'l citizenship cancels out my URM status. Not your typical rich int'l student... Fingers crossed that things go well!

Re: 2011-2012 Cycle Applicants!
Very little information on this really. But I saw another post on TLS that basically said that unless you have US citizenship/permanent residence, then Law Schools cannot include you as part of numbers they report for diversity.spek wrote:Source?Hull_at_The_House wrote:Int'l citizenship cancels out my URM status.
However would love for this to be wrong. But until it is, i'm playing it safe and assuming i don't count as a URM for this.

Favorite Reach: Y
Favorite Target: Michigan
Favorite Safety: Canadian school
I've got a 174 and a 4 point something right now.
As for personal statement... I have a few ideas but nothing concrete. I'm kind of in the "afraid to even start" mode right now. Whoops...
I'm hoping to have everything in as soon as I have fee waivers. Which means I need to get my info and things to my LOR writers ASAP.
