Just summarizing for those searching this in the future and don't want to read the wall of text I just did to get this info:

1) Taking easy distance learning courses at a community college courses shouldn't look bad if your transcript can otherwise prove that you're capable of more academic rigor, so go for the GPA bump.
2) A lot of online courses don't actually show up as online on your transcript, double check to be sure.
3) These only apply to online courses offered by accredited brick and mortar schools. Not sure about University of Phoenix and other things with creepy 1800 number commercials.

Are you taking these classes for credit (even if you don't plan to transfer it) before receiving your first bachelor's degree? If so, they should count in factoring your LSDAS GPA.

I took some online community college classes in addition to IRL community college classes, and I'm pretty sure my transcript didn't indicate the difference. But check with the school to be sure.

I actually just found some threads that resolve this question, and both of you are right :)

Thanks!

Actually, I got dinged by the University of Toronto for doing this, even though I had 90 "brick and mortar" credits from a respectable school with virtually the same GPA. I called them up, and they actually told me this. My numbers were golden there.

It didn't seem to make a difference at any U.S. T14 for which I otherwise had the numbers. Thus, my plan to get a cheap education, fewer C&F issues, and a less competitive job market by going up north was foiled before it began.
