Easier to transfer to hys from mvp or dcng?

Post by hendrix » Sat Apr 30, 2011 11:21 am

seems like the competition would be tougher, but they might dip further into the rankings at mvp. Please advise.

Since GPA and LSAT combined explain only 20% of the variance in 1L grades, you should go to MVP. Thinking that GPAs being .1 lower and LSATs being 1-3 points lower will make the competition easier is absurd.

Good point. How about class size? G and V are much bigger than D and C.

Don't plan on transferring. There are probably going to be smarter, higher-performing, and more qualified candidates than you at any (and all) of these schools. Moreover, transferring to HYS is extremely, ridiculously difficult, especially for Y and S. And if you get to the point where you actually are a competitive transfer candidate from one of MVPDNCG, you won't need to transfer unless you have some very pointed career goals (i.e. academia, Watchtell).

Attend the MVPDNCG that a) is the cheapest, b) best fits your career goals, and c) best fits your personal preferences. It should also be noted that GULC tends to be weaker than the rest of the group when it comes to Biglaw and clerkships, but may be stronger when it comes to government work.

Non-responsive.

NDG have a higher LSAT median than M does, and the same one as VP. Even if it was 100% of the variance it wouldn't be any harder.

1) The differences in the GPAs and LSAT scores of MVP students versus DCNG students are trivial; its simply note the case that the competition at MVP will be noticeably tougher.

2) You are unlikely to get the grades to transfer regardless of where you attend.

You draw the inferences.

There's a reason that 0L's shouldn't ask about transferring.

Stop being an idiot.

Even if one of these schools maximized your chances of transferring into HYS, and another one of them minimized your chances, I don't think it'd be worth picking the max-school over the min-school for that reason. Even with a maximized chance of getting in, your chances suck; the ridiculously large percentage of the time, you end up trapped at w/e school you are trying to transfer out of, and you then you end up kicking yourself for choosing a school you hate or conflicts with your career goals.

If you are dead set on HYS, and it is your LSAT (and not your GPA) that is holding you back, you can take a year off and retake. I think that would be a little silly for most career goals, since you are in at mvp. But if you want academia for example, it'd totally be worth sacrificing a year to get into Yale.

Anyway, gl!

Since the topic has been raised, i am curious to know... how competitive IS it to transfer into HYS, anyway? What kind of stats does it usu. entail?

HTH

(The only extent of knowledge anyone here could actually give you would come from the Yahoo Transfer Apps group, go look at that)

ok so... top 10-20% of your class, and 95% of the transfer admissions criteria = 1L grades... for an upwards transfer.

+don't bother with a lateral transfer.

that's basically all there is to know, it seems.
