I have been looking at joint degree programs and I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on how valuable (or invaluable) an JD/MPA is. I am going into JAG and I am looking to keep my options open. I talked to some people at syracuse and PSU about this degree but not really sure if it is worth the extra time... any thoughts?

1) Find the amount of money the MPA costs including COL
2) Add that amount to your debt total
3) Ask yourself if the extra debt is worth it in order to spend another year or two out of the workforce
4) If yes, this is the only value it will bring you

At Syracuse its basically a free degree and you graduate in 3 years from Maxwell (#1 in the nation).

I'll be headed back to 'cuse next year as a 1L as well, and have also been interested in the duel degree. Yes, it is basically free, but you do have to give up your first summer to stay there and take classes which will probably hurt job prospects slash connections for the future. On the other hand it is one of the most highly regarded mpa programs in the country and getting a masters sure won't hurt your resume.

Going into JAG will open enough doors, I don't know that the MPA would do anything for you that JAG wouldn't do.
