Between now and next cycle/September....
Comrades,
I have a pretty tricky question ( I suppose) and feel that others may be wondering the same thing. So I will start this thread and hope for the best.
I plan on applying to law school as early as possible next cycle ( 3.96/173). Currently I am interning at a law firm ( had planned on doing December through June) and doing other volunteer work. My question is this: what is the best thing to do between now and September to increase my chances of getting into the top schools? ( HYS)
Should I retake the LSAT? Try to start a non-profit? Keep doing my internship? Take a summer class? Travel? Start a business? art gallery? Clean sewer pipes to support my drug habit? Get a job? Record a folk album ( seriously)? Something else I haven't even thought of????
I feel that a lot of people may be in a similar situation, deciding how to play the next few months. If you are please let me know what your are planning. If you just have advice to give, please do that too. I would love to hear what you TLSers think

Pursue genuine interests. Learn correct spelling of "comrades" & think about your personal statement.

no if 173 is your only score do not retake. that is a lot of unnecessary stress and with your gpa unles syou were going to get a 176+ I don't think it would even matter. and god forbid you have a bad day and drop in score? no no no. you should go lie on a beach, drink a lot of beer and write a good personal statement.

+1 to bolded. You have a good shot at HYS, and if not, you'll be at CCN. The best thing you can do is get your LORs in order, write a great PS, and make sure your resume is perfect.sonervous88 wrote:no if 173 is your only score do not retake. that is a lot of unnecessary stress and with your gpa unles syou were going to get a 176+ I don't think it would even matter. and god forbid you have a bad day and drop in score? no no no. you should go lie on a beach, drink a lot of beer and write a good personal statement.

Well what else is there to do? Unless you pull off some super fantastic feat (Rhodes, Fulbright, etc), your application profile is pretty well complete.

A 176+ will help you get scholarships from CCN on down, if that is a consideration for you. Your numbers have gotten into H easily with early apps this year, though no one can guarantee you won't be sitting with your current score in a tub of regret this time next year.

if you start a non profit- you should stick with it for a few years, not months.

What would I be regretting? You're saying next cycle could be a CATastrophe?Cats off to you! wrote:A 176+ will help you get scholarships from CCN on down, if that is a consideration for you. Re: Between now and next cycle/September....
Just meant that though your scores are in range of HYS, plenty of people with similar numbers this year and years past have NOT gotten into HYS, did not receive enough financial aid from other schools, and did not meet the LSAT floors for receiving nice named scholarships from other T14s. That is a regrettable situation to some.oregon000 wrote:What would I be regretting? You're saying next cycle could be a CATastrophe?
You are probably golden with an early app to H, but I am not a seer (despite my awesome hat) and neither is anyone else on TLS.
