In the wikipedia article that you guys are referencing, the following quote appears:
wikipedia wrote:There exist common characteristics across these top schools. Reputation is a key driver of their placement, according to Anna Ivey, noted law school admissions counselor, who declared, "A degree from a top-14 school will be portable nationally" in a Washington Post interview. Nonetheless, there are schools outside of the top 14 whose graduates predominantly place nationally rather than locally.[21]

First guess which law school could be the non T14 national law school, then click citation 21.

Good call.

I was secretly hoping for UC Irvine, though.

Is that Leiter post for real? Dude needs to read the usability guidelines or something.

Yeah well, he sucks in general.

It pains me to link to him. But frankly, I trust his feelings on LS reputations over the herd mentality at TLS.

Has GTTTOWN ever been in the top 10?

I don't think so. Thus, the statement that "T14 is the schools who have been in the top 10 previously" is wrong.

I move for Top 10 and Top 20 as the key distinctions. There is a clear drop-off after UVA in terms of prestige and placement.

Loving Berkeley's fall btw. They never deserved to be a "T6." Next, I'd like Stanford to supplant Harvard, UPenn to supplant NYU, and Vandy to supplant GTTTOWN to tie UT. Then the rankings would be perfect.

Gtown has been in the top 10. Put down the crackpipe.

This. And I think it was really always a T17ish. Even before these rankings no one would advise going to GULC, Cornell, Duke..etc over Texas, if you wanted Texas. And no one would've advised going to GULC, Cornell, Duke...etc over UCLA if you were deadset on Socal.

pre-ite the differences were even bigger. Duke/Cornell were placing something like 64%+ while Vandy/Texas were at like 45%? Almost 20%. That's huge.

Your explanation doesn't make it "T17ish;" it supports the notion that law schools are regional.

I agree. There is still a signifcant difference in placement between those two groups of schools. But that doesnt make Cornell better than texas for texas.

The idea of the T14, was a grandiose vision of 14 schools that trumped all others. That hasnt really been the case for years.

EDIT - like the above poster said, law schools are atleast a slight bit, regional (outside of HYS and maybe CCN of course).

the problem, as always, is that what students really care about is employment. sure, USNWR may be smiling on Texas, but the "TTT effect" proves that employers will always have a hard time looking past the first letter of the school's name.

My bad. It was ranked #10 once, in 1993, and Cornell has been ranked #15, in 1987, also breaking an alleged "Top 14" rule. Either way, this whole T14 thing was always stupid.

so according to this thread... 13% of TLS goes to Texas, 23% goes to Georgetown, and the rest are T13 up.

Pretty sure I've heard said on TLS many times "They are T14 because they have always been the T14 schools, even if their order has changed."

Anyway, in terms of finding a secure job after graduation, I'd feel much safer going to either UT or Vanderbilt than to Georgetown. Not sure why it was ever considered in the same category as schools like Chicago, Cornell, or Harvard.

FYI, I am not planning to attend UT or Vanderbilt but am happy to finally see the rankings reflect reality.

It doesn't change job prospects, but there's no denying that GTTTOWN has not been living up to its alleged Top 14 status for quite some time.

T10 is under-inclusive (DNC regularly outperform MV in NLJ250 placement: http://www.top-law-schools.com/archives ... =2&t=61206) while T20 is over-inclusive (WUSTL and UMN in the top grouping?)

Dude, what the fuck are you talking about? Recent placement data puts GULC a little better than Texas and Vandy, and historical data shows them to be significantly better. And T10 and T20? That's even worse than the T14 distinction.

At this point I'm not sure if you're a troll or a real person. If you're a troll, then bravo- this is one of the better efforts I've seen recently. And if you're serious, then may God have mercy on your soul.

T13.

DNC are just as good as MVPB. You can't say that about UT or Gtown.

But Georgetown places at a level above UT/UCLA/Vandy.
