Even horrible schools have national prestige, even if it's for a not so great reason (brb-all Bush's staff from Regent)

Even if they are only known for their college football teams it is still an asset to attend a school that is known.FeelTheHeat wrote:FTFY.CP2323 wrote:I didn't realize that people's only goal was BigLaw. Is it worth going over a T14 school? Of course not. But to say they aren't known nationally is just retarded. People here on TLS seem to get stuck in their narrow views. Top14 or no reason to go to school. Make 160K+ to start or there is no reason to go to school. Work in NYC, LA, Texas, Boston, DC, etc or there is no reason to go to school.
That is not what the majority of people want to do.

Please read Rad's post. It has actual statistics and relevant information, unlike others who just say that Miami has "name recognition."CP2323 wrote: People here on TLS seem to get stuck in their narrow views. Next, go plug in $160,000 to a loan calculator and determine what your monthly payments will be.
Then, see how big a chunk of $40-60,000/year salary that kind of insane debt takes out. That is likely what you will be making, as Radlaw demonstrated the unlikelihood of scoring a biglaw job.
Research is your friend. Its not being narrow minded. Its awareness. We are trying to help. I am going to FSU because I have a good scholarship and have pretty minimal debt leaving. THUS, I can afford to take a $40,000-$50,000 job coming out and not have it devastate my finances. Please tell me you follow this logic. Otherwise, I give up.

That is where looking at the whole picture comes into play. A state school with in state tution like FSU or UF will always be a better choice then Miami or Stetson.
UF is about a third to a fourth the cost to attend Stetson or Miami. Plus it is now better known nationally then Miami or Stetson. (Miami would have a ton of name recognition back in the 1980s and early 1990s )

Feeltheheat you seem to not understand what I am saying.
UF and FSU are better choices then Miami and Stetson.
UF and FSU are lower cost and better known nationally.
How are both of those statements not supported by fact?

lay prestige =/= the kind of prestige that will get you hired out of law school broCP2323 wrote:I didn't realize that people's only goal was BigLaw. Can we please get this thread back on track?
As posted in the OP, I didn't want this thread to turn into a "Go here or not at all thread" and I also don't want it to be a prestige thread.
Please just rank all the FL schools.

UF
FSU
Stetson (higher then Miami because it is also in an area with lower cost of living but pretty equal tuition cost)
Miami
Nothing else really worth attending.

lol @ name recognition. Yeah, people in Chi know what UF is. Too bad they don't hire from there.
FSU
Miami/Stetson (pick Tampa Bay or Miami-Dade)
Others are not worth ranking.

This thread is filled with all kinds of stupid. I attended UFs ASD and its own faculty admitted its a regional school and wont take you far out of the state (or southeast region at most).

Re: Please rank Florida Law Schools for me.
Purely my opinion here......
1. University of Florida
2. Florida State
3. University of Miami
4. Stetson (if you plan to stay in Tampa only)
5. Florida International (substantial, un-stipulated scholarship only, and only
if you plan to stay in the area)
Don't bother with the following T4s:
Florida Coastal (BAD--owned by the people who own Charlotte School of Law and Phoenix)
Barry
Ave Maria (horrible, horrible school from what I've read)
Nova Southeastern
Florida A & M
St.Thomas University

Do people at UF Law make fun of the other state schools law program?rman1201 wrote:This thread is filled with all kinds of stupid. I attended UFs ASD and its own faculty admitted its a regional school and wont take you far out of the state (or southeast region at most).

There's no reason to elaborate. There is absolutely no logic behind putting Ave Maria in front of Stetson.TOMaHULK wrote:Just curious...Ave Maria above Stetson? Really?SrLaw wrote:1. UF

If this isn't a flame, I'd seriously like to know why the OP doesn't just say the schools he is considering. I can assure you I am not changing my mind, nor is anyone else, when it comes to what they think the quality of schools are in Florida.

How have I attempted to change your mind once? How has anything I said been in support of any school? I merely asked people to rank them. The above poster had an interesting list and I asked him to discuss. That's all.FeelTheHeat wrote:If this isn't a flame, I'd seriously like to know why the OP doesn't just say the schools he is considering.
