LSAT Score Variance letter
I took the LSAT in October and bombed it. 157. My girlfriend broke up with me a couple weeks before the test, I was totally blindsided, and couldn't pull it together. I retook it in December and landed a 169. Now a few schools have emailed me asking for an explanation for the variance. What's the best way to explain this?

You can be honest, but leave out the details (girlfriend breaking up with you), and explain that a serious personal situation arose and you were unable to perform to the best of your abilities.
Or, you can lie, claim you were sick, and say you underperformed because of that.
The fact that your improved your score 12 points in two months shows that there were obviously more factors in your score change than additional studying and prep. They are just curious why it changed significantly and why one score is more representative of your abilities than the other.
