TRIALS Summer Pre-Law Program at Harvard Law School

Post by The Law » Sun Jan 09, 2011 11:19 pm

The Training and Recruitment Initiative for Admission to Leading Law Schools(TRIALS) Progam is accepting applications until the end of this month. As past participant in the program and current law student, I highly encourage anyone interested in law school to apply as soon as possible.

The program took place at NYU last year and will take place at Harvard Law School this summer.

Here is the link:

I am open to answer questions.

Good luck!

I'm trying to figure out what to put in my personal statement. What are they looking for, to make me stand out?

Is this program for people enrolling in law school this coming Fall, or is it geared to those who haven't taken the LSAT yet and want to go to law school?

The latter. At least from what I understand, a large part of it is geared toward doing well on the LSAT. I looked into the program last year, but chose not to take it as it was the only summer I had the opportunity to study abroad. Also, I wanted to take the LSAT in June in case I needed to retake in October, and I'm super glad I did that because I DID end up retaking in October. This is not to discourage anyone from applying, just that I chose not to.

Several people have informed me that they believe they are not competitive for the program. Though we may hear it from many places, this program truly is holistic in its approach to selecting candidates, so I again encourage you to apply.

The program is for those in college planning on or considering attending law school. Graduates are also welcome to apply.

As for standing out, try to paint a picture of you. There is no single type of person they are looking for. Put your passions into your personal statement. What drives you? What are the life experiences that make you different from others? What have you accomplished in your life? Why do you want to attend law school/be a lawyer? These are all possible topics to touch on.

It is not too late to do the application. I learned about the program the day before the application was due and pulled an all nighter. This is not the ideal situation, but do not sell yourself short. The only way to be certain you will not get in, is by not applying.

Good luck.

Hi there.

Who are you, and why are you qualified to answer questions about the program?

Thanks!

I would also be interested to hear your qualifications.

Not a ton of buzz about TRIALS this year (last year / the first year there was a good amount). I also haven't run into any PR info about past alum. Anyone else looking in to it or applied in the past? Maybe someone can point me in the right direction with regard to where past participants have ended up?

Side note: web site says:
The deadline for submitting Part II of the application is February 15, 2011.

I applied the inaugural year and was rejected. It seems like a great program. It is HIGHLY selective though. I believe the the first year had something like 4000 applications for 25 or so spots.

Understandable, I hope I get accepted, if not, I will still be honored to have been a finalist!

Hope no one minds me reviving this thread. I'll be applying to TRIALS this summer and was wondering if any past participants could share their experiences in detail. I'm also not sure when the best time to apply is. Earlier in UG, later? Right before you plan to take the LSAT?

Anyone apply to this? I'm DYING to know if I got in. It would be such an amazing opportunity! Also LSAT class starts Apr 1.. they don't respond until Apr 15. What to dooo? Is there a sign of anything before Apr 1?

:/

I heard some not so good things about this program

#1 they don't go on merit alone--they sanction off spots for HBCU students (which is absolutely beyond rediculous for us blacks who chose to forgo a racially homogenous college experience)

#2 They will stretch the meaning of "underprivaledge"---I have heard stories just recently about how they turned down an applicant who was lower class with a high GPA, for a candidate who had a much lower GPA and was well into the middle class with a far more adventageous background.

Google people who have been in this program years prior, you will olny find a few---a guess most of its alumni didn't find the experience important enough for it to be on the resumes

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
