Deferral 101 Help!

I don't know if this is the correct forum so feel free to bump if necessary.

I work in politics and my boss is about to announce that he is running for higher office. They have asked me to stay on for an additional year to work -- guaranteeing a promotion and increased responsibility. I was deferred to the reg. applicant pool at my ED choice so I no longer have that hanging over my head. I have been accepted at a couple places already -- one t-14 I would be happy to attend. Does anyone know the answers to the following questions

1. How "easily" is one able to get their acceptance deferred?
2. I assume I would need to put down some deposit but does anyone know generally how much?
3. Does this prohibit me from applying again next cycle to see if I am able to get into a better school (if I took the year off I would retake the lsat)?

I have read that generally deferrals are done on a case by case basis. It seems that with a compelling unexpected work related excuse, it would be looked upon more favorably.

Thanks in advance for the help!

1. If something "arises" rather than you just being like "oh no thanks I think I'm going to look for a job and take off a year," schools are more receptive to you deferring. Almost every school that allows deferrals in the first place is on a case-by-case basis, i.e. you'll have to "apply" for it. However, you do seem like you have a good opportunity at your fingertips that you didn't necessarily have when you were applying, so I think you'd be fine. Be careful though, as certain schools will, and others will not, allow you to defer any sort of merit aid you've received. Within the T-14s specifically, I know that Cornell will NOT allow you to defer merit aid, whereas Duke will.
2. Generally, you'll have to put down the same deposit everyone else does. Again, this varies by school. Some will make you sign something and then pay next year's seat deposits, while others will make you pay this year's AND next year's seat deposits, which would all be credited under your fall tuition.
3. This does in fact prohibit you (or at least in 99% of all cases) from applying next cycle. If you'd like to apply next cycle in other words, don't defer at a school. It's pretty much equivalent to doing an early-early decision where you already know you're accepted. If you're very lucky, you may be able to get out of your deferral and apply to other schools, but if this happens, don't expect to be re-accepted at the school you burned.
