Re: Curiosity Poll - What was your undergraduate major?
at what point do you think this is a fair representation of majors for an application cycle? any statistics majors here? the sample size seems good enough to me. i understand this is a self-selecting group but there doesn't seem to be any indication that TLS attracts a certain type of student. the one class of applicants that might not go on a forum like this would maybe be bankers or pHD graduates/candidates only because they are swamped with time (but that's just pure speculation with no evidence whatsoever - in fact... all of this is loll).
but again for all the business/econ people - my bad.

Law and Justice. Pretty cool in that I go a little taste of every type of law, finally taking a shine to health care law.

Kudos to you for getting through that. I would have been bored to death.

Yep, lots of math, most of which I've forgotten.
Ended up taking some religion/econ/music courses, too, to balance things out.

I chose my classes very carefully and came into college with a lot of credits, so I was able to do all of them. I really wish I had chosen Economics or something completely different instead of International Relations. I enjoy my poli sci classes by far the least.
What can I say? I love school. They're not the most difficult majors, but I definitely feel like I've learned a lot and challenged the way I think. Hopefully they prepare me for law school.
NZA, your major does sound really appealing.
that's impressive dude. and history can be a very difficult major, depending on the person.
Thanks! I didn't have much trouble with history until my thesis paper. I had a really difficult subject that my teacher really wanted me to research and I had absolutely no background knowledge on the subject. I read sooo many books for it, half of which I never ended up using, and even after I understood the information, I struggled with putting together a coherent paper. But I rallied and worked my butt off and did end up with that A I sought after. The price was I had to give up studying for the LSAT and I didn't take it in December. I guess it's for the best, because I decided that I really should wait a year.
And as far as my history courses go, I mainly focus on subject areas and time periods that I have the least knowledge about or experience with, so that I'll have a well-rounded understanding of history when I'm done. Next semester I'm taking a course on the history of Latin American relations (which I have a bit of a background in, but not nearly enough) and 20th Century Middle Eastern history, which I have embarrassingly little knowledge about. As much as I would have liked to study the French Rev and Elizabethan England, I tried to focus on more practical things.

No Social Science? I choose Humanities because it seemed like the closest option, but it isn't really accurate. Social Science can include Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology etc. My major was psych.

Awesome that is EXACTLY what I did, in the exact same order! I graduated in Physical Geography (my school had concentrations).
Awesome! I don't know if this counts, but we had to take a cartography/GIS class and it was on point.
krad and DCLaw, what kind of classes exactly did you take for Geography?
NZA, I focused on environmental science/conservation as well as remote sensing and GIS. I took all the engineering pre-req physics/chem/calcs while I was a bio major (GPA fail?) so remote sensing was an awesome combo of things. I ended up using RS in conservation/environmental sci applications at NASA before coming to my current job at a software company.
Geog was TCR for me! Almost no one knows that you can pretty much study anything under it's umbrella

I have majored in Math, Mechanical Engineering, Political Science and finished with Computer Science. Ended up a couple courses short of Poli Sci and Math, didn't see the point of taking extra time to finish.

It actually surprised me how many phil majors responded on the polls, it rarely gets mentioned on TLS or (ime) irl. My department in UG had like, 30 people in it.
Phil pride
Disproportionate amount of phil majors apply to law school, I think.

Symbolic Logic? Like, Frege? I did continental phil, so we rarely had to worry about that sort of thing but I find it pretty interesting.

LMAO.
What's geography? Someone who can become proficient in (or at least has departmental permission to study) everything!
