Fatal Mistake?

Postby ktaraq » Sat Dec 18, 2010 3:29 pm

Ugh, I just notice a big error in my introduction of my personal statement. I've submitted it to about 5 schools. Below is the error:

Through a few defining academic, professional and volunteer experiences, the universe has guided me towards realizing my “personal legend.” Law school is undoubtedly the next step towards realizing it.

I thought I had changed the the first "realizing" to "understanding," but I didn't! I read it way too many times and didn't see the mistake. Is this terrible? I mean in a way, the words are you used in two different ways, the first is understanding, the second is used in terms of achieving. Blah, what to do? Is this a huge deal?

What's the problem? It makes sense as written.

It makes sense I suppose, but horrible writing to start with in an introduction (but the rest is pretty good, I think)

Yeah. It might have been preferable to use different phrasing. But, it's certainly doesn't seem like a fatal mistake. I read it - very naturally - as saying that the universe got you started towards realizing (attaining) your personal legend, and law school is going to be the next step in that process.

By the way, what's a personal legend?

I intertwined the theme of a book into my PS, personal legend refers to your destiny, but it's pretty explicit in the rest of th text.

Also, thanks, hopefully it doesn't hurt that much. Just started to freak out!

Not a big deal. Grammatically correct and they read so fast they probably won't notice it.

Realizing that you might have to understand that this isn't really an error might just be the first steps in realizing a solution to the first steps of understanding and dealing with the problem of post-submission anxiety. Understand?

Lol enjoy your life for now.
