Who is normally on the admissions committee?

Post by Mce252 » Wed Dec 15, 2010 7:17 pm

What does reviewing my application look like at law schools? Does it go from one professor to another, one at a time, and all of which make up the admissions committee? Or do these people actually review applications in one room together? Lastly, are there only professors on the committee, or regular staff as well?

Links to threads with this information will be appreciated.

It all depends on the school. It could be all of the above and more.

I am targeting Texas schools. I was just curious if there was some kind of "best practice" for administering a law school admissions process.

I think most schools have professional admissions officers do the first read and make an initial recommendation. (Admit/Deny/WL) Deans/faculty read the files that pass the initial screening.

But that's just a generalization.

According to a former Harvard law admissions dean, administrative/admissions officers often decide the clear cut admit or deny cases while the tougher cases are assigned to law professors on the admissions committee to read & make a recommendation. In the recent past, this practice applied to Chicago. But admissions practices can & do vary from law school to law school.
