Cancel Retake Registration?

Postby applepiecrust » Sun Dec 12, 2010 9:24 pm

I am signed up for February LSAT to retake my October score which was lower than any PT I'd taken (lowest PT = 169; actual LSAT = 168). I think the lower score can be attributed to nerves and not having taken 5 section practice tests (I didn't add an experimental section) and disturbed sleep pattern the morning of the LSAT.
I am quite confident I can score closer to my PT average (174+/-2) on a retake, once I control for the factors that messed up my first score. My GPA is mediocre (3.6) for T14 standards, which makes the LSAT score all the more important.

Now, here's the catch: I am already in at a T10. And it's a school I absolutely love and would be very happy to go to.

So is it at all worth it to retake the LSAT, and sit out this cycle and apply early next year again? Taking the year off would also involve hunting for a job as a non-citizen in this economy, which would also be incredibly stressful (and makes the retake seem even less worth its while). I am senior in college right now, and if I go to law school next year, I will be 21 when I start, which I figure is on the young side.

I have my heart set on NYU, which is why I am going through all this drama.

Any suggestions/advice? Am I just suffering from a case of the grass is greener on the other side?

Sigh, two responses that contradict each other. TLS wisdom, can I pick your brains some more?
Really not sure what to do... especially since if I am retaking it, and applying for jobs, I need to get serious about both of those things quickly.

Given that you got into Michigan with only a 3.6/168, your softs must be decent. I'd say go for NYU if you can score a 172+.

That's what I am thinking. The question is the opportunity cost of taking a year off (= one more year of stress). Though I suppose I'll have <one> stress free spring either way, it will just be in 2012, instead of 2011.

And if NYU is really >>> Michigan?
