Decision deferred?

One of the schools I applied to just said that my decision has been deferred. It also requested a deferred survey response. What the heck do I make of this?

What school? Were you ED or RD?

I rather not state the school in case they have hawks searching TLS forums. I applied RD and I am an out of state applicant for the school.

Well, did they say that they were deferring you to the wait list or that they were granting you a deferred admission? I didn't think they did the latter. I thought that "deferrals" were things that students requested after getting admitted so they could sit out for a year.

They just said "final decision deferred." They also said "deferred decision survey response requested." I have not received the info in the mail yet. Just got all this from the online status checker.

Sounds like wait-list. Can't be sure until you get the official word, but that's what I'd think.

Thanks. Hate wait-lists like everyone else!

Some schools just defer the decision until later in the cycle. This probably means that they reviewed your application and just aren't ready to make a decision yet. You'll just hear back later.

I really doubt this is a wait list.
