should I write an addendum?

Postby sarahlawg » Mon Dec 06, 2010 9:31 pm

This is going to sound stupid, but I'm just not sure. My GPA is a 3.86, but I had two semesters in the 3.6-3.7 range because in both I had professors who did not care that I had to miss class to take my dad to appointments at the hospital. Two professors dropped my grade a letter because of attendance, even though my work was adequate. Do I write an addendum? It doesn't look very good because I had a 4.0 at community college, transferred, and then the first year my dad got sick. On paper it looks like 2 easy years and then a hard transition and then a good senior year. What do you think?

Addendum for a 3.86? Come on.

I know, I know, but that's why I prefaced it. Will it just make adcomms roll their eyes too? Honestly I was really annoyed by the lowered grades and I suppose I am still feeling quite bitter.

I just dont see what the point is. That's a great GPA, even if its not what you could have earned, I would just let it stand. IMO addendums are for people who have some extreme reason, or have been out of school for a while, or have a terrible first year followed by high achievement. IE "i've learned since then."

Addendum for your reason wont really help, and it may come across as excessive. So why give it?

No addendum. What happened sucks but it's not like it caused you to fail a class or anything.
No addendum.

I think you're trolling just as bad as I was with my GPA addendum post.

I won't write an addendum then... I will just have to get over my bitterness. and hope they don't think that going to a four-year was somehow harder for me than going to the community college. Thanks for the advice!
