GPA: 3.23 LSAT: 173

My GPA is low due to not really taking college very seriously my first two and a half years but since I have pulled my GPA up and have gotten a 4.0 my past three semesters. I'm curious to the degree that law schools break down GPA year by year and how much an enormous improvement can help despite a lower GPA. I spent 6 months preparing for the LSAT and have taken it twice with respective scores of 169 and 173. In addition to that I have some solid E.C's such as serving as my Fraternities Treasurer and President also I have served on Student Government Cabinet and am currently the Student Government Vice-President. I believe that I wrote an excellent personal statement to where I highlighted all my leadership positions my job experience (Management Experience) and my improvement since my sophomore year as well as the fact that my GPA for 3000+ level classes is just under a 3.8, it is a close to perfect as I can pull of I got professional consultation on it as well as had two pre-law advisors read it and comment on it. I applied to UVA, Duke, UNC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, University of Florida, George Mason, Villanova, Syracuse, and Campbell
I am above 75 percentile for all these schools but am below 25th percentile for UVA, Duke, UNC, Norte Dame, Ohio State, UF.
The others I'm in between 25th and 50th or 50th and 75th. Any shots at those top Tier schools? I know if I can get in for an interview I will seriously better my chance I've taken numerous interview courses and am a well versed public speaker. Also how is the transfer process from a 2nd tier school to a 1st tier school, I have had my heart set on Duke for some time now and know they take a moderate amount of transfer.
Thanks

Take some time reading posts around here. There is plenty of information about splitters.

Use lawschoolpredictor.com to determine which schools you have a shot at. I don't see a problem with getting into most of the schools you listed with a 173, even with a 3.23.

Conventional wisdom: don't go to a school with the intention of transferring out. You should be towards the top of your class to transfer to a top tier school, which you can't assume that you will be. There's so much competitive pressure and too many variables that will impact your 1L grades.

Schools dont really care that much about gpa how it's broken up. May be slight favorability for upward trends, but they don't care. Most schools don't do interviews nowdays.

Read the goddamn post before you start making your usual blanket statements.
I applied to UVA
ED'ing to UVA is no longer an option.

I would recommend ED'ing to GULC though. Their ED deadline is in March.

Just to clarify for OP. UVA does not have an ED deadline anymore, so yes UVA ED is still an option. You might have a shot at others like NU if you have WE (i didnt read your whole post) or GULC.

If UVA is your top choice i would ED as your chances are close to zero without it

I said UVA ED is no longer an option because the OP already applied to UVA. Whether or not he can change to ED after submitting a regular app, I dont know, but as it stands ED at UVA is no longer an option.

Get it?

Really? With 5000+ posts you should be a little more informed. OP switch to ED ASAP and enjoy UVA, just email them and let them know and send in your contract

Assumptions like this are why the internet can't have nice things.

I think that is a pretty legitimate assumption, unless he goes on here and posts without reading anything

Lolwut?

The magic of the "Ed to UVA" response is that it applies to anyone with a sub 3.5 gpa/170+ LSAT, no matter what, no matter when (unless they were already rejected/waitlisted from UVA, or have another ED app going).

Wonderful post. Not only were you a jerk, but you also managed to contradict yourself and give false information. You've hit the trifecta!!!! This is a new standard for TLS.

Holy geez guys. Drop it already.

I made a mistake. I admitted to it and even linked to the UVA website to show the OP that he could change to ED in spite of having regualar decisioned.

You guys fixating on my mistake makes you guys come off as the dicks. So, drop it already.

Thanks for informing me though. I'm not armed with new info.

OMG I can't believe Gdane didn't know about being able to ED to UVA. What an idiot.

Just kidding.

Seriously though, if you are ok with UVA ED. Otherwise your out at that and I think most of the t14, especially duke which seems to have a 3.5 floor if I recall.
