Addicted to Applications?
So this morning, I was checking my status checkers and nothing had changed (surprise). Now, when I'm stressed about the law school application process I find a school where I have a fee waiver and submit an application.
Anyone else having this problem?

I have applied to SO MANY schools just because there is a fee waiver.

Re: Addicted to Applications?
I find this thread extremely comforting. I hit 13 for that exact reason, then cut myself off. Though tomorrow I might skim through fee waivers and submit to Indiana Bloomington, U North Carolina, U Alabama...and who knows how many others. Having only paid one app fee so far, my guilt over expense isn't yet holding me back...

Re: Addicted to Applications?
Exactly. I first applied to the schools I was really interested. Then I went with a method and applied to peer schools with fee waivers. But I just keep thinking, if nothing else a couple additional applications can't hurt.JenDarby wrote: Having only paid one app fee so far, my guilt over expense isn't yet holding me back...
The part that I feel a little bad about is I have applied to some schools that I really couldn't go to even if accepted because I am relatively locked in geographically.

I end up pulling up rankings and thinking to myself, well, I could live in Georgia...and all the sudden I've submitted another app!

Only downside to this is maybe you'll decide not to attend this year for whatever reason, and then have to write new personal statements and updates etc. next year which you wouldn't otherwise have had to. Negligible hassle I know but I'm pretty lazy.

I thought I was the only one who had this problem! I'm up to 30+ schools now, and still get a compelling urge to apply to every school that sends me a fee waiver. I'm trying really hard to cut myself off from new applications.

I have been able to cure myself of the "application addiction," but unfortunately I can't seem to stop checking my status checkers every ten minutes.

Applying is a decent addiction. You only spent $12. It doesn't make you gain weight. You stimulate the economy. You contribute to the creation of jobs. Everyone wins.

Re: Addicted to Applications?
I dont think its bad applying to a lot of schools. In fact, if you have more than one region in mind, it would be a good idea to see what your options are. Especially if you only have to spend $12 on the application. Why not see what offers you get from as many schools as possible in the region/regions you are seriously considering relocating to? Once you make the commitment to go, its pretty much a done deal. If you leave no stone unturned you will be able to make a more informed decision as to what is best economically suited for you ( this is why I do not think applying ED is a good idea, unless you are 1000% positive and set on a school).

i sent them a picture of my avatar. Admissions people love animals.
Honestly, I have no clue. I think they just randomly select them, or people ask for them.

I was pretty surprised by what schools I got fee waivers from. I had a few schools where I know that I will be rejected, but I applied anyway. Maybe they'll make a mistake?

I got 1 from UT after I got in. Now if I can only turn them into currency or even barter with them ... lolwhymeohgodno wrote:I hate you. Multiple fee waivers from the same school? It's tempting to send an app anyway though. I am sooo grateful I got in to Berkeley, I seriously was about to use some of them. I already started the LSAC apps... I probably wouldn't get in anyway because I was going to send generic PS's.

Re: Addicted to Applications?
Wow you guys are crazy, I had the completely opposite urge last year...
I planned to apply to 13 schools, finished half at a slow trickle (like 1 or 2 per day over a week) and then stopped. Planned to keep going and just never got back around to it, leaving 6 schools unfinished.

Didn't you hear back from your school early though? I think most people are driven by the fact that they are waiting on their target schools. I will not work on anymore applications now that I have 1 under my belt.Na_Swatch wrote:Wow you guys are crazy, I had the completely opposite urge last year...

Re: Addicted to Applications?
Try having a LSAC fee waiver where just about EVERY school is free to apply to (-$12 after the first 4 apps). I just want to keep on applying non-stop!

Did you try just applying to schools and checking? I got a ton of fee waivers emailed, but it wasn't until actually testing random schools in the 20s and 30s that I realized I had waivers to just about every school from Cornell on down.

Re: Addicted to Applications?
I say 60-70% of my waivers came through my Yahoo mail junk folder.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
