Evaluate my app list

Postby Decision2011 » Thu Nov 18, 2010 2:21 pm

Hello everyone,

I've submitted the following applications so far and I'm debating as to whether or not I'd like to send out a few more:

Stats
GPA Range: 3.7-3.8
LSAT Range: 160-162

Super Reach - Northwestern (Fee waiver + 3 years WE = Why not?... Certainly don't have high expectations though.)

Reach/Target - William & Mary, UC Davis, UC Hastings

Target - Loyola

Safety - Pacific (McGeorge), University of San Francisco

One of the more consistent jewels of advice that I've gotten since I started considering law school was to apply broadly. However, I feel pretty good about the 8 schools listed above (which include a couple of my top choices going into the process). That's not to say that I couldn't pick out a few more schools from the T100 and give them some serious consideration if I were to be admitted; I just don't know if I should. Thoughts?

If you bumped your LSAT up just a few points, it would turn your reaches into targets, and create a whole new list of reaches.

Towards the end of my prep I was consistently PTing in the 164-166 range with a high of 168 so I'm pretty sure I could score higher, but unfortunately, I struggle a bit with test day anxiety (the 160-162 score was my second attempt, my first score is in the low 150's). I've thought long and hard about a retake, but ultimately decided that I'd give this cycle a shot with my current stats. Would I like to max out my LSAT potential and give the T14 a serious run? Of course, but I don't know if it's worth a third attempt; especially considering my affinity for a few of the schools on my current app list, at which I think I still have a pretty good shot. I'm just wondering if anyone thinks I've overlooked any options or if I should throw out a few more applications.

Sorry I'm coming back to this again, but if you pulled a 168 on a PT, you could get close to that on test day. Don't sell yourself short. Go see your doctor and tell them you have some pretty bad test anxiety. There are treatments for that. Also, I took the LSAT 3 times because I bombed due to anxiety. The 3rd time I took it, I was much more relaxed because by that time I was a veteran. Anyway, I scored much higher the 3rd time around.
