Splitters are notoriously hard to predict.
If you really prefer Cornell over UVA I would wait until they respond but all they guarantee is that you will find out by end of December. And there is always the chance that you might get "held".
If you have no real preference between UVA and Cornell I would ED to UVA asap.

Re: Moment of panic and/or clarity - please advise!
Thank you for the honest advice. A big part of my problem is that I just don't know if I prefer Cornell (or any others) to UVa. Cornell is especially appealing due to it's location and proximity to family, in addition to much I have read on the culture of the school and area. However, as noted I've visited several schools recently and found that it really is critical in my decision making - one school that was in my top 3 more or less fell off the list as a result of a visit. I know I love UVa - I think the ultimate question is if its worth the gamble that I might be admitted to a school I love slightly more by not EDing.
I think I'm also nervous as I sent out all my aps 2 weeks ago and have only heard from one school. I feel like most people are hearing back much faster, or maybe it just seems that way. Am I right to be worried?

No, REALLY a splitter. LSAT at or above median with a GPA below the 25%ile.MysticalWheel wrote:Not REALLY a splitter...just saying.

OP, you stand a shot at UVA RD, but you're probably looking at sticker. Considering UVA's superior placement relative to Cornell, I'd say the smart thing here is to ED to UVA to secure your acceptance.

That's the definition of a splitter. One below 25th one at/above 75th...oscodasa wrote:Howso? My LSAT is median/75th for most and gpa is below 25th.MysticalWheel wrote:Not REALLY a splitter...just saying.

I was referencing splitter in the absolute sense, not relative to a specific school.beachbum wrote:No, REALLY a splitter. LSAT at or above median with a GPA below the 25%ile.MysticalWheel wrote:Not REALLY a splitter...just saying.

"Splitter" is always relative to school selection. HTH.MysticalWheel wrote:I was referencing splitter in the absolute sense, not relative to a specific school.beachbum wrote:No, REALLY a splitter. Ok Dillholes. Enough with the technicalities.
OP, ED to UVA. Its a great school and you have a very good chance of getting in. Put together some great statements and ED immediately.
Good luck!

Thank you, I keep coming back to EDing to UVa and feel it's probably the right thing to do. Do you think waiting until mid/late dec would hurt?beachbum wrote:No, REALLY a splitter. LSAT at or above median with a GPA below the 25%ile.MysticalWheel wrote:Not REALLY a splitter...just saying.

ED to UVA now.
It's a better school than Cornell, prospects-wise, people enjoy their time there, and you stand a better shot that way.
Do it now.
Additionally, you may be overestimating the pleasantness of Cornell in the winter....

Thanks for the suggestion; this is fairly new to me and I wouldn't have thought of it on my own.s0ph1e2007 wrote:Create a poll

Also, please keep in mind that I'm in state for UVa, if it even makes a difference considering by subpar GPA.

Also potentially important for poll purposes: I don't drink, one of the very few factors making me wary of UVa.

Hmm, think you have me confused for someone else. I'm EDing to Duke.oscodasa wrote:Thank you, I keep coming back to EDing to UVa and feel it's probably the right thing to do. As far as drinking/lifestyle, it'd probably be worth a PM to some of our resident UVA students (we've got a lot of 'em). Though I imagine as long as you're sociable and can handle yourself in bars and at parties, you'll be fine.

Sorry about the mixup; I most likely mixed up icons. Best of luck with Duke, I certainly hope it works out for you though I'm a tarheel fan myself . And good advice on the UVa folks on here, I'll seek a few out to ensure I won't be ostracized.beachbum wrote:Hmm, think you have me confused for someone else. Why not visit Cornell to figure out which one you prefer? Three years is a long time to ponder if you might have been happier at a different school.oscodasa wrote:Thank you for the honest advice.
