I know it is overly simplistic but that is a very broad view of law as well to include all social regulation and control.

Did humanity cease to exist? Did everyone die? Uh...no. Europe bounced right back 100 years later. This supports the conclusion that medicine is not necessary to the survival of human society.

Because there are those on here (who shall not be named...Voldemort) that do not understand that law is more important, overall, to society than medicine is. No one is saying that medicine is unimportant, only that it is less important.

Exactly. 0L is bliss.
Is your handle a reference to Brothers K?
People are making this way too black and white. If he genuinely wants to be a lawyer, I would wholeheartedly recommend going to HYS for law over any med school. The other thing is that a lot of the 1L and 2L's in here fail to realize that the truth is that there is traditional profession where it's all roses--period. If that's what you are looking for you are living in a dream world. As a previous poster mentioned, doctors spend years in residency only making 40-50K while they have to make payments on 200K + loans. On top of that medical school is 4 years and downright grueling. People keep pointing out lawyers low job satisfaction, the reality is that modern day doctors are experiencing the same thing. On top of that unless you are a specialist (which is becoming extraordinarily competitive) the money in medicine isn't nearly as "models and bottles" as many of you are making it out to be. I've got a family friend who's a doctor who is just plain getting exhausted with it. Between sky high malpractice insurance, constantly having to take tests to stay certified, and the hours that can come with the truly big dollar doctor positions (ie surgeons) it's not all roses like many on here think it is.
I can also tell that a lot of people in here don't realize just how much more difficult med school is than law school--it's absolutely grueling. The material is much more difficult. The most important thing that people are missing is that medicine is supposed to be an altruistic profession--almost a calling. If someone has doubts about being a doctor, even moreso than if they have doubts about being a lawyer, they shouldn't do it. The last thing people need is doctors who don't really love what they are doing and who are doing more for the money. It's one thing to be a lawyer or a business man for the money, it's something entirely different to be a doctor and have that as your motivation; You are handling people's literal lives.

Yes its nice to have a job, but as a doctor you wont automaticallly be making huge money right away. The medical profession has its own issues- burnout, substance abuse and mental illness( these issues can be found in all professions). If you know its not for you, then its not for you.
In the end, whatever you decide- just remember that you have to live with yourself for the rest of your life. Im sure you dont want to be miserable, so dont stay withsoemthing even though you dont like it just because strangers on an internet forum think medical school is the greatest thing ever.
Already 3/3 on those issues. Burned out in high school after perfect SATs, gave up on college, substance abuse throughout, and likely depression. The hallmarks of a great doctor!

You've successfully enumerated every single thought I've had about medical school in a single post. Bravo, and thank you for saving me the effort.
The idea of continuing medical education literally makes me sick to my stomach.

I've just skimmed through this thread, but in the "law vs. medicine: Which is more important for a progressive society?" debate, I actually side with MW to an extent. Order in a society is a step that needs to be established before it can reap the benefits of medicine. That's why so many African nations are in such terrible shape. They don't have law and order. Contracts/property rights/etc. are worthless.
OP,
I think the sentiment of not doing anything rash is credited. Medicine is a better career choice than law, but it wouldn't be insane to opt for the latter if that's where your ambition and talent lies. I would make sure you are going to be able to do well on the LSAT and REALLY know what you are getting into before making any sort of decision to leave medical school. Also, the advice of getting your MD and then pursuing a JD is probably TCR here.

OP: from reading your posts, its pretty clear that your mind is made up. I would suggest taking a leave of absence for the spring, studying for the June LSAT and then depending on how you score ( and if you need to make the decision before late june based on your pt scores) transition yourself to law school. Its clear that you've made your decision about medical school, take the time to analyze and game plan your next career choice.

I don't really see what's "retarded" about basic argumentation.
