Done with applications … Maybe. Advice pls

Post by masochist » Wed Nov 10, 2010 11:35 am

I wrapped up the last of the applications I planned to submit on Sunday, but now I am wondering if I my applications are too skewed toward targets and away from safeties/reaches. Here is the break down.

Big reaches (below 25th percentile in either GPA or LSAT) = 1
Reaches (below median in either GPA or LSAT) = 3
Targets (between median and 75th percentile in GPA and LSAT) = 2
Pretty Good Targets (above 75th percentile in LSAT or GPA) = 7
Almost Certain (above 75th percentile in both LSAT and GPA) = 1

So this means that I have only one school for which I fall above the 75th percentile in both numbers and only four schools for which I fall below the median in at least one number. For two of these four the other number is above the 75th percentile, which means I have only two “Hail Mary” schools. Should I submit a few more big reach apps? Do I need a couple of schools for which I am a mortal lock? Have I somehow managed to be simultaneously too conservative and too arrogant in my selection of applications? Should I just chill the f' out and stop analyzing this so much? HELP!

Chill out, might be too late for hail mary reaches.

If money is an issue, pick a few more safeties with good scholarship offerings (search on LSN). You are still early enough to get $$.
