Northwestern without we
Is it even worth applying without any post-college work experience?

I've always wondered if you could write a diversity statement about thatFresh wrote:3% of admits have 0 years we, 97% have 1+ yearsMcDeere wrote:Is it even worth applying without any post-college work experience?

Depends on your numbers. If they're great, NU occasionally offers schollys to folks willing to defer a year.

i'd think anyone with those numbers would be better off just going to a higher ranked t-14 (and prob still get some $)homestyle28 wrote:Depends on your numbers. If they're great, NU occasionally offers schollys to folks willing to defer a year.

If you have a fee waiver and decent numbers, why not apply? It's only $12. Chances are you aren't getting in, but $12 isn't a lot to spend in my opinion.

Re: Northwestern without we
true. But these schollys at NU are usually full rides. I think a handful of people take them every year judging by LSN and previous year's threads.hellojd wrote:i'd think anyone with those numbers would be better off just going to a higher ranked t-14 (and prob still get some $)homestyle28 wrote:Depends on your numbers. So even if you do get in without we, you have to defer a year?homestyle28 wrote:Depends on your numbers. If they're great, NU occasionally offers schollys to folks willing to defer a year.

Thank you for your insight. Yes, the most recent class is 98% with 1+ years of full-time post-college work experience. The 2% straight out of college tend to have CCN-numbers and impressive internships.Hannibal wrote:Is that 1+ of FT?Fresh wrote:3% of admits have 0 years we, 97% have 1+ yearsMcDeere wrote:Is it even worth applying without any post-college work experience?

There are a couple who just get in without having to defer.homestyle28 wrote:That is my understanding.McDeere wrote:So even if you do get in without we, you have to defer a year?homestyle28 wrote:Depends on your numbers. Even if you were accepted, attending NW without WE seems like a risky idea. Do you really wanna be the only kid at OCI without prior full-time WE? Just a thought.

This would be kind of like arguing your 140 LSAT score would add to the diversity of LSAT scores at Harvard.Arbiter213 wrote:I've always wondered if you could write a diversity statement about thatFresh wrote:3% of admits have 0 years we, 97% have 1+ yearsMcDeere wrote:Is it even worth applying without any post-college work experience?

Re: Northwestern without we
I know someone who got in last cycle without work experience (that didn't defer), but not only were there stellar numbers involved, he also had quantifiable leadership experience, internships, awards, and extracurricular activities that would be deemed as pretty decent softs even by TLS standards. Oh, and a masters degree + 2 bachelors in 4 years.

Brb applying to HYS with my 150/2.2thisiswater1488 wrote:I applied last year as a senior in college and got in with a deferral scholly. I was 100% expecting a rejection. I almost didn't apply because I know Northwestern weighs WE so heavily. I have good numbers, but not stellar. (see LSN.)
Moral of the story?
Apply. You never know what's going to happen.

What of professional work experience before you're done with undergrad? Would over 7 years of professional we that was done while you were going to school not count? I'm curious about this. I'm an oldie.

Northwestern says to only count the number of years of full-time work experience after your bachelor's degree.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
