I need help with this sentence

Having a JD degree in addition to a MS in Special Education allows me to be able to be a better advocate on topics related to Education, and more specifically children and families of the disabled.

Obtaining a JD degree in addition to a MS in Special Education will (or would?) make me a more effective advocate on education-related issues for children and families of the disabled, among others.
