How bad will not having employment experience hurt me?
I didn't work throughout college but I did do two internships. The first at a legal firm and the second at a legislative office with a Michigan representative. How bad will this hurt me?

Won't hurt for admissions. Certainly doesn't help for OCI, though...

Just to clarify, I'm pretty sure that NU likes postgraduate work experience, not work during undergrad.acrossthelake wrote:Hurts at YHS. Need it for Northwestern. Questionable on all three counts.acrossthelake wrote:Hurts at YHS. Need it for Northwestern. Negligible elsewhere.
Y and S like diverse applicants (H doesn't seem to care as much), and one form of diversity certainly comes from work experience. Not having WE won't hurt if you have some other redeeming factor(s), and of course the LSAT/GPA.
Anecdotally, I have a friend at Northwestern who went straight from UG.
Other schools like WE, too. Probably not as much as Y, S, and NW, but it's still a plus.

This. Admissions, with very few exceptions (such as Northwestern), doesn't care about work experience unless it is rock-star awesome. (That is an expression. They might actually not find a rock star to be awesome for law school admissions.)MrKappus wrote:Won't hurt for admissions. Certainly doesn't help for OCI, though...
However, my understanding is that it probably will hurt your chances at OCI. Employers like to see maturity.
