3.16 and 170+

Postby Mrs. P » Tue Oct 12, 2010 9:20 pm

My husband is an associate at a firm in LA and relocating isn't on the table so my only real options are:

Loyola
Pepperdine
UCLA
USC

I'm taking the December LSAT and my score continues to improve. I feel confident that I will hit a 175 by December, but I will also be applying late in the game. What do you think of my chances?

Because you haven't taken the LSAT and gotten a score, it's gonna be pretty much impossible to give you any chances at any schools.

You could apply now to a bunch of schools, and the LSAT score will be sent to them as soon as it comes out though, which would mitigate the late applying.

I thought that schools wouldn't look at your application until it was 100% complete with your LSAT score. Is that not true?

This guy was confident that he would make a 173+, and he ended up scoring well below that. You would do well to focus on your LSAT prep for the time being, make sure that your apps are polished and ready to go, and worry about your chances after you get your score. Getting your heart set on a certain score, while to an extent unavoidable, is a recipe for profound dissapointment and pain.

That being said, I think even with 165+ you should be good at either Loyola or Pepperdine. Have you checked out http://www.lawschoolnumbers.com?

They probably won't look at it, but it will take less time for your apps to go complete than if you send them in later.

Ha, I just read that thread. The guy had a 3.0 and thought he was going to get a 177+ AND ended up with a 165. DAMN.

I feel a little bad referencing Dr. Strangelove every time someone posts a thread like this, as he was near as I could tell a pretty nice guy. His absolute certainty that he would score in the 99.9th percentile, along with his real score just serves as a valuable lesson to those who would make a similar mistake.

I looked at the thread the guys post that he would have a 3.0 gpa and 177+. He a) didn't have that gpa yet (he was in undergrad still) and b) had not taken the LSAT

LSAT rolls around and he ends up with a 165...huge difference.

Yeah, he seemed like a decent guy- but he was a little too overconfident in his abilities. I mean, the dude was attempting to map out his entire future based on the assumption that he would outscore 99% of test-takers. I don't care how talented/ambitious/lucky you are, that's a pretty big leap of faith.

I don't think that's necessrily true. I know someone with a 3.3 and a 175 who applied right after the December test. Didn't get UCLA, got USC only after a long ride on the WL but eventually also got NU off WL.

id imagine there's something up with their app if they got rejected from ucla. theyre well below the gpa median but so far above the more important median, it's hard to believe.

Not really. UCLA and USC are hard on GPAs.

All Cali state schools are hard on GPAs.

I applied to UCLA, USC, and Loyola last cycle after taking the December LSAT.
With 174/3.38 I was waitlisted at UCLA, rejected at USC, and accepted with no money at Loyola.
