Not Rejected if you Meet a Median??

I heard from an admissions person that if you meet at least one of the medians (she said LSAT specifically), you will be at least waitlisted. This was at a pretty high-ranked school. Has anyone heard this before? Is it accurate??

Every adcom is different. At some schools this is true. At others it's not. I got dinged at Cornell and I was over their Median by 9 lsat points.

Dude you're a URM in the 170's. You'll have your pick of the litter.

Do adcoms look on here and on lawschoolnumbers for students? Or are we just paranoid?

I feel like my application is a little unique lol yes i think i'm a special snowflake

I feel like non URMs overrate the addition of URM status to an application lol oh well I'll take my shot anyways

ALSO: PLEASE DONT QUOTE SO THAT I CAN DELETE THIS AFTER RESPONSE
URM is different. Regular advice doesn't apply.

Look at the URMs on LSN and the URM forums. Enjoy.

If you look at the graphs on LSN, most of the outliers are URMs. It does suggest that you will have a distinct advantage when you apply. With your numbers, I think you'll be golden. You really cannot underestimate the impact of URM status on an application.

Because that's a highly representative sample...Did anyone on here even take stats? Know what it is?

You will find all the stats your heart's desire at LSN. You can search specific to GPA, LSAT, URM, etc. When you look, you will see that you will be in VERY good condition.

Why worry about adcoms looking on forums? First, I doubt they have the time to search for each applicant on forums and second, just don't say anything that you think would seriously damage the perception of your character

I heard certain T14 schools reserve 5% of the incoming class for people who manage to not act like asshats on TLS.

I think this is beyond the point. People overplay statistics a bit when it comes to applications. Your GPA/LSAT combo gets you put in one of 3 piles: ding, consider, auto-admit. I think you can still f-up the auto-admit based on numbers if your application is an obvious POS. People here focus on the fact that you can't write your way out of the ding pile easily (if at all).

That is blatant YP though. And a 176 to Cornell? I don't blame them lol. I don't know why they deny instead of waitlist though -- maybe you were siced for Ithica

Urm applicant advice is much different than normal applicant advice for a variety of reasons. First is that softs generally matter much more. Cycles are also more unpredictable, since while you may get a substantial boost, sometimes it appears people don't (or they get boosts in varying degrees based on schools).

A rough (and I do mean rough) guide for what your LSAT boost is:
NA: 12+
AA male: 10+
AA female: 8-10
Hispanic:4-5 (can depend a lot more on the school too)

Feel free to call out these numbers as off and to offer corrections.

Hourumd.com might be easier to use for URM chances, since multiple years allow you to see a bigger sample size (place less emphasis on the older cycles though).
