How much does applying early decision matter

If you apply early decision does it really affect your chances?

Early Action (non-binding) can't hurt at all, and it's better to apply early, because more seats are available.

Early Decision (binding) can be tricky. Make sure it's something you REALLY are committed to at a particular school before you apply.
