Start with something simple like this? :

Dear XXX,

Please accept this letter as my final correspondence to you in this matter. I appreciate your thoroughness and thoughtfulness as you helped to clarify this challenging issue for me. Although the end result is not what I hoped for, I am grateful for the opportunity to approach you. I have gained clarity from this process that will serve me well as I carry on into law school and my career. I apologize for emotional appeals, and I hope that my passion was representative of my desire and aspirations, and nothing else. The faculty at XXXX are outstanding, and my time spent there remains a rich and rewarding experience. This entire process has served to motivate and inspire me to persevere and work even harder, and for that I am most-thankful.

Thank you,

XXXXXmeXXXX

Professor XXXX,

It is very difficult for me to take time off from work to deliver the assignment. Therefore, given how insignificant the grade change would be, I ask that you forgo correcting the 8/9 quiz grade.

In closing, I would like to apologize for the tone of my prior emails. The law school admissions process seems to have gotten under my skin, and looking over my words from earlier, I realize I have been quite out of line. I am sorry for that - and I appreciate your taking the time to help me navigate this stressful process. I'm not a fan of the opening sentences. Try to re-word that. Or ,is it too late? You lead off with how difficult it is for you? No, no, no. Start with nicey nice. Drop the first sentence, edit the second one to say this (as your lead off)...

"Thank you for your time. Upon further review I now see that the benefit of changing the quiz grade is of minimal value and certainly does not warrant any further effort on your part." I would like to withdraw my request for a review and consider this matter over."

He still has to review my final exam grade, so the matter is not over yet. The grade discrepancy on the quiz doesn't matter now that all other things have been settled.

mindybluehammer wrote:Alright, this might hurt for those who are intelligently challenged.

If you go into an area of creatures that involve predators and prey [the ocean for example] you run the risk of becoming prey for a predator. All the people who go swimming in any mass of water, you immediately add yourself to the food chain, and your not at the top most of the time. Predators of any kind will look for their usual food source, and if they find something that isn't usually on their menu, they leave it be and move on. Most people who react to shark bites turn a 'nibble' into a 'near-fatal-attack'. I honestly feel bad for those that loose limbs in shark attacks, but they found out the risk first hand when it comes to going into a new environment and coming close to one of the predators.

These men and women looking to save these sharks from being hunted like this, I applaud them. I'd much rather be swimming in an ocean where the top predator is a shark than find out that the jellyfish are their replacement, because that seems to be where this is going.

But of course, the media who does such a WONDERFUL job at broadcasting 'precise' news, everyone hears the savage attacks on 'man-hunting' creatures.

All be it that the gaping maw of a shark can be a thing of nightmares, they are the least of my problems. Not all sharks live in the water.

To the OP:

This is why I'm thinking of majoring in something other than PoliSci. At least at my school, PolSci is WAY to subjective. You can study all you want, write the most brilliant essays in the world, but unless you suck up to the professor like a drunk Paris Hilton on a party night, you are NOT guaranteed to get a grade equal to your input.

Meh.

Breaking News: The chair just responded to my most recent email.

XXXXXXX,

No need to apologize. I understand the pressure people are under to get good grades,
and you were within your rights to ask for all this to be reviewed.

I haven't run the numbers, but I think you're probably right that changing the quiz
grade from 85 to 88 isn't going to bump you up to an A.

I presume, then, that we're done here, but let me know if there's something else to
bring to my attention.

By the way, I'm glad to hear that you've had some positive experiences here.
