Do I Have a Hidden Waiver?! A Pictorial Guide
If you've asked one or more of the following questions:
"How do I see if I have a hidden waiver???"
"What does this LSAC screen mean?!"
"I'm afraid to look - what if I accidentally submit?"
then you're in the right place. The following steps will show you how to easily check for a hidden waiver!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
STEP 1
Complete the application. You'll need to make sure all mandatory parts are done, but you can often check "this does not apply to me" and then go back and edit later in the instances in which you just want to check for a waiver.
Optional sections need not be completed.
STEP 2
Click "Continue" at the top of the application checklist screen.
Step 3
You must click the "Preview" button in order to Continue.
Please note: an application fee listed here does not mean you don't have a fee waiver. There's still another step. Click "Continue."
STEP 4(a)
You should now be at the Application Fee Payment and Certification page. If you see several options for paying a dollar fee amount, it's bad news for you, friend. No hidden waiver here:
STEP 4b
If, however, you see the following: "$xx application fee waived due to CRS fee waiver" then congratulations! Your application fee for that school has been waived!
After you see this screen, you can simply click "Return to application" to exit the process. Your application will not be submitted, and you can still go back and change whatever you'd like on it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few schools which usually have hidden waivers before any formal notification:
Columbia
NYU
Penn
Michigan
Northwestern

Let me know of any other schools you guys might know of, or if there should be additions to or clarification of the OP.

Looks like you need to have required blanks filled in (the ones with the blue star) to Continue.2011Cycle wrote:Does the primary application form need to be completed for step 3 to appear? thanks
You do not need to add the required attachments, LORs, etc. You'll notice that in the Columbia example, I didn't attach any of the required documents or assign any LORs and I was still able to get to the Payment screen to check.

Yay I have one from Michigan Nothing else I didn't already know about, but I'm now at 8/15, so that's pretty sweet.

Thanks. I am doing something wrong. The error screen does not allow me to move forward. I will figure it out. Great post!eskimo wrote:No. If required blanks are not filled, you will get an Error message (like in Step 2) but you can just hit "Continue" anyway.2011Cycle wrote:Does the primary application form need to be completed for step 3 to appear? thanks

Okay. I will say that I have most of my primary application fields filled in, so maybe just go through and do the starred blanks?2011Cycle wrote:Thanks. I am doing something wrong. This is great. Anyone have a sense as to how long it'll take for these to show up post-October LSAT (if at all)? I'd like to save money, but I don't want to wait for weeks for them to come in.

A word of caution: some places never email! I know Northwestern and NYU gave hidden waivers to some people and didn't email them last year.kk19131 wrote:I must be the only one who actually likes coming home to fee waiver emails...
