Are you happy with your choice of CLS over money at Cornell? Would you make the same choice again if given the opportunity for a "do-over"?

Hmm, it's a good question. IDK, yet. I was regretting it for a while because I was worried I would not get an offer to work at a firm next summer. Of course, that doesn't guarantee a permanent offer after 3L year, but firms have been doing 100% this past summer since they really downsized their classes to do that.

I guess, I would have to know if I could really get the same opportunity from Cornell that I have gotten from CLS. CLS would want me to believe, of course, that I couldn't get these opportunities from anywhere but CLS, but I am not too sure. It's hard to say, to be quite honest. CLS is, probably, more secure in this environment than Cornell. I most likely could not have pulled a SA offer with OK grades from there as easily as from CLS, but I still may have gotten something. IDK. Plus, it's not like CLS didn't give me any money...just a lot, lot less than Cornell.

You said CLS doesn't have a campus feel to it. Do you mean there's no feeling of school unity/pride and people just sort of go to class and then go off on their own? Do you think it's better one way or the other or is it just based on personal preference? Thanks!

Not technical, no. I mean, if you are a 0L, you shouldn't worry about this, at this point. Essentially, there are two rounds: the first is a 20 minute interview with a partner or associate. This is called a 'screening interview.' They generally ask about stuff on your resume. Other times, you might get someone who throws out those generic, stock interview questions (biggest strength, etc.), but, for the most part, it is just a conversation about your resume, your time at your school, what you did your 1L summer, any past experiences between college and law school (at least for me, since I worked for a year), etc. Then, if they like you in this interview (which, by the way, takes place over 4 days for all CLS students in a central location to which all the firms send interviewers), you are asked for a 'callback,' which is the second round. At this, you go to the firm, generally have 4 30 minute interviews with associates and partners, and, sometimes, are taken to lunch with some associates. These ones are more in-depth, and you had better know about the firm, because you are likely going to be asked why THAT firm, at some point.

They aren't intimidating, once you get the hang of it. Everyone is very pleasant and friendly. They aren't technical, except they might ask you about some legal issue you faced at your 1L summer internship (which, is legally technical, but you will know it since you worked on it). What else? Oh, it is always CRUCIAL to ask them questions at the end of the interview--every interview, first and second rounds, they ask if you have any questions about the firm, and you need about 2 - 3 to get through it. After your callback (the second round), you wait for them to make a decision whether to extend an offer to you to work at that firm the next summer. They will call, if they want you. That's about all I can think of, right now.

was your pre law school we significant enough to come up while interviewing?

do you think your ug major/school type (ie: prestigious/top) was a factor - even if marginal - in firms extending you an offer?

Columbia has a lot of cool looking study abroad options. Are you planning on doing one or do you know anyone who has? I'm interested in knowing if a study abroad is something only done by people who have a specific international career in mind or if it is a cool thing that people do during 3L because their career is already set.
