Ditto. I'm going to model the 5-year plan after my other Why X essays. Explain which programs, clinics, student groups, journals etc I'm interested in and then explain how those and the interdisciplinary coursework at UPenn will give me the skills of a great attorney, put me in contact with members of the legal community, and get my interests/specific career ambitions flowing. This fits nicely into my plan of becoming an attorney in the broad public interest field and will give me the opportunity to confirm my more specific interests in the fields of X and Y.

As for the other essays, I've got an ok one page Diversity Statement I'll use, but I'm not going to force the literature/art essay. Even though I was a German Lit. major and could probably write about some of Kafka's works, I think it will sound extremely contrived, given that I explain in my Personal Statement my legitimate reasons for chosing to go to law school. No offense Herr Kafka, but it wasn't your In The Penal Colony that made me choose law over literature

Nope, not yet. I figure since they don't officially start accepting apps until the 1st, we don't hear anything until then.

So how many optional essays did you guys write? Anyone wrote all of them?

I'm doing two, I have no diversity to speak of so that one's out...

Cool, I would write lit/art but I don't want to crowd my file too much.

The Harvard lady stressed "any kind of diversity" a couple of times, I think you should be able to find something to write about Don't think "diversity", think what makes me stand out. She said almost everyone submits one... You do want them to pick you over other right?

I really can't think of any diversity I have to write about, and I doubt I could tie sci-fi books or ancient Greek pottery into a "why law" essay

Just write on how the pro-bon, clinical programs, etc are going to play into your future career. I tied it all into 1.

You mean you don't want to write about how the Officer's theories on punishment inspired you to take up law?

Plus, I don't have the work experience to go to NU Law.
