Does anyone know if Yale, Harvard, NYU, or UChicago or other T14s will require these as well so that I can just ask my school to send it to them all now?
You got on academic probation and still pulled a 3.7+ LSDAS GPA?. That's pretty impressive. I think Stanford requires one as a standard part of the application, and not just for people who were put on AP.

I think you can get on probation for things other than a low GPA. If I'm wrong, well done OP.

Lol don't be impressed. Our withdrawals are non-punitive and non-passing grades don't show up on our transcript and therefore are not counted by LSDAS. You're actually better off failing or withdrawing than getting a C in our system(though I didn't do it intentionally, I was sick). I got on warning because I didn't complete the required number of credits one semester because I was sick so I withdrew.
Wow that's a good deal for you :P.

acrossthelake wrote:The wording of all the questions I've been able to access (either old applications, pdfs, current apps, etc.) mention academic probation specifically, so you'll have to mark yes. *Some* require a dean's letter, but the full list I'm having troubles coming up with.

So far:

Yes: Columbia, NYU, Duke, Cornell
No: Yale
No mention on app: UChicago
Requires one anyway: Stanford

?????: Harvard

All of the ones I've accessed and the relevant areas of the websites have all instructed to write an addendum explaining what happened so that they don't have to speculate.
Harvard's app says: If you have answered 'yes' to any of the above questions, you must providde deatails on a seperate attachment or electronic attachment.

So no dean's letter for them

Edit - although I'd prob send it anyway if you are already getting a letter written..
