Northwestern Interview
I read threads with this title in the forum, and I get that not interviewing means you're pretty much screwed. But...I live in the middle of nowhere (Peace Corps), and there's no way I could do an interview. Do they do phone or Skype interviews? I'd love to hear from someone who had a similar experience.

I think they offer the option of interviewing with a local alumni as well.

I live in a village...there are no local alums. I'm a full 24 hours (one way) from capital, and I think that would be the closest alum interview, if they even have any in this country...

Re: Northwestern Interview
I don't think you're screwed. The Peace Corps counts as work experience. It is extremely selective, and you obviously have to be a mature, flexible person to be able to make it through. If your numbers are at median I think you'll have a good shot.

Re: Northwestern Interview
You're not screwed. Even if you can't interview, you have a damn good reason. If you know you'll be home or in a major city anytime during the application season, however, let the admissions team know really early in the application process with any dates you have. Thinking this far ahead means you can probably figure something out.

Either way, I am pretty sure they do phone interviews.

^^
Any verification on this?
On their website they only mention "on-campus" with a staff/student admissions counselor and "off-campus" interview with local alumni.

Re: Northwestern Interview
Acceptance rates are between 25 and 33% depending on which Peace Corps official you ask. So, not extremely selective in terms of HLS's rates, but extremely selective for a volunteering program.

Sorry to slightly hijack the thread, but is interviewing worth it even if your chances at NU aren't that high? For me this is because I only have a year or so of W/E.

In that case the interview becomes necessary.bk187 wrote:Sorry to slightly hijack the thread, but is interviewing worth it even if your chances at NU aren't that high? For me this is because I only have a year or so of W/E.

A year or so is fine for Northwestern.bk187 wrote:Sorry to slightly hijack the thread, but is interviewing worth it even if your chances at NU aren't that high? For me this is because I only have a year or so of W/E.
Especially if you already have a year. Because they count up until matriculation. Even though I applied after only working a year, I was allowed to claim 2 years because by the time school starts I'll have two.

Re: Northwestern Interview
The interview is not mandatory if you have work experience. It is still highly recommended, but people can still fare extremely well without one.
It just depends on the person and the reason for not having one. Your reason is MUCH better than mine and I still did fine.

Re: Northwestern Interview
Thanks for the info! Very helpful. I had work experience before the Peace Corps, too, so sounds like lack of interview is not the end of the world!

Re: Northwestern Interview
had one year of "work" (read unpaid internship) experience after college, didn't interview (and didnt have a reason not to - live in major city), got in.
i'm not saying you shouldn't. if you can i would recommend it. but i don't think it is as necessary as people make it out to be.
