Applying ED = forgoing any chances for $$

Post by marklg89 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 10:51 am

Hi guys,

I'm planning on applying ED to a reach, and was wondering what would my chances be to receive financial aid of any sort (ie need based/scholly money)?

The general consensus appears to be that applying ED pretty much seals your fate to pay sticker, since why would a school who has you under contract to attend give you anything whatsoever… but has there been exceptions before? I’m a fairly recent immigrant (permanent resident though) and so $$ is an important matter for my consideration. Thoughts? Thanks for your help!

UVA is a school that gives $$ to ED applicants they feel deserving of merit awards. However, there is no way to know if you'll get any $$ until after you're accepted, so you must be prepared to pay sticker.

ED is best used on a reach school that is unlikely to admit you unless you do ED. In those cases you probably wouldn't have gotten $$ anyway.
