Below-avg. softs; advice on what to do?

What's up TLS? I have only posted one time on this board, a few months ago in regards to an LSAT hypothetical. Ideally, I would like to help others as much as I can, since just lurking on here has helped me immensely and I would like to give back as much as I can. But first, I selfishly must ask a few noob questions.
On to the issue. I have decent numbers for the schools I am applying to. I am not concerned so much with the PS or LORs. My issue is two-fold; work experience and other softs.
For work experience I have two, albeit largely unspectacular, summer internships. Since graduation (Dec. 2009), I have been working a labor-intensive type job because it was no problem to get, pay is pretty solid, and I wanted to be able to focus on the LSAT as opposed to spending large amounts of time searching for a job. I would like to know whether or not I will be looked down upon for not getting a job in my field or within the legal field. Should I now look for a "real job" to have on my resume before applications go out this fall?
Secondly, I have below-average softs. I have done a few volunteer activities while in college, coordinated a couple more as part of my fraternity and that's basically it. I was hoping for opinions on how to boost my softs a little bit to at least an average level in the next few months. Finally, will I come across poorly inso doing because I have activities crammed in before applications, or can I simply explain that the time I've had off between UG and LS has allowed me to pursue these sorts of things (which is true).
