Re: Application Fee Waivers - Fall 2011 Applicants
Any chance certain schools target specific races/ethnicities as well? I'm Asian, and I've gotten NOTHING from CA schools, even California School of Law and Santa Clara.
...on second thought, I guess this situation would be where they're excluding certain races

Just got a waiver from Saint Louis University of law... I've never heard of this school before.

Sigh. I may or may not be currently attending SLU for undergrad. The law school outperforms its rank (now T3... yikes) with a strong regional network (and not much direct competition), but in the end it's still a second-rate school in a city that houses WUSTL. They were talking about constructing a new law building (the current one is awful), but that got put on hold indefinitely. I get the impression that they're content with sitting on their laurels and enjoying the fruits of being the only local school (minus WUSTL... but they're not too focused on St. Louis).saito816 wrote:Just got a waiver from Saint Louis University of law... But they are top dog in health law, for what that's worth.

Doubt it. I'm Asian too (probably the same type of Asian judging by your sn) - and I got Santa Clara yesterday as well.msch0i wrote:Any chance certain schools target specific races/ethnicities as well? I got Santa Clara yesterday. First of this cycle. I was a December 09 LSAT taker. I signed up for an LSAT forum within the last month to try and make my account appear active to schools doing CRS searches. I'd like to attribute the waiver to my action of signing up for the Forum, but I'm pretty sure that'd be a causal flaw.
Not especially exciting, since I have no interest in that school. But I hope this means they start rolling in.

Got Saint Louis University...
So, no Georgetown or Cornell, but yes Duke and Virginia? No Santa Clara but yes to Saint Louis, Valparaiso and Illinois Law?
I really, really want to know how they decide to give fee waivers.

Yeah me too. It's super bizarre. I keep imagining them hiring crazy blindfolded monkeys who just pick random LSAC numbers and throw bananas at our applications. (I'm trying to write Why ___ essays and am clearly losing it. Ahhhh!)kazu wrote:I really, really want to know how they decide to give fee waivers.
I got Santa Clara and a million emails from California School of Law, but I had to email Georgetown to get a waiver. And no Cornell/UVa/Cornell. So far Duke is the only school I wanted to actually give me a waiver/priority. They get extra lurves now...

Certainly not a fee waiver, but got an e-mail from Harvard letting me know a rep would be on my campus soon to talk Harvard admissions.

Ha, same. I re-emailed them since it had been a week and a half from my initial request with no response. They responded in less then an hour with the same message. I made sure to note my URM ethnicity.msch0i wrote:Just received a response from BU, stating they do not give out merit fee waivers "upon request."
Maybe just upon my request? I'd appreciate it more if they had just told me the truth. Oh well.

Re: Application Fee Waivers - Fall 2011 Applicants
Finally checked my mail, and waiting inside was a waiver from Kentucky but nothing from Cornell. Sucks having numbers that may or may not be good enough for admission, but are just out of reach of any good fee waivers (minus UVA. I love you, UVA).

Re: Application Fee Waivers - Fall 2011 Applicants
I emailed Georgetown the other day and was given a fee waiver. My LSAT is right at their median (170) and my GPA is above their median(3.68) but below their 75th(3.81). I am not a URM.

Re: Application Fee Waivers - Fall 2011 Applicants
I e-mailed Georgetown, UNC, USC, BU, Vandy, Michigan, Duke, Cornell, Virginia and UPenn last week requesting a waiver. Everyone told me to register with CRS (I already was) except for Virginia, who gave me one (and then sent me an e-mail for another one the next day). I have a 169 LSAT and 3.68 GPA. I also put in my request that I have 3 kids, but it didn't seem to help.
I'm wondering if I'm not getting pulled up in these CRS searches because I took the LSAT in Feb. I wanted to be ahead of the game, but maybe it's going to bite me in the end.
Everyone was pretty nice with their response. Georgetown did tell me they were forwarding it to the person who handles the request and that she'd get back to me, which she hasn't done. They all kindly referred me to the need based waiver (I don't qualify ).

This is a new policy for them, if that's true. They gave out a lot of merit-waivers upon request last cycle.Tiva wrote:Ha, same.
